PEC Causing Unplayable Slowdown

I got sick and tired of always starting Xenogears over, and never being able to finish it, because regardless of what everybody tells me, I find the game just ballbreakingly hard most of the time.

So in response to that, I figured out how to get PEC and set it up etc, and did so, however, upon activating it and getting everything working, I was annoyed to discover that with any game I tried, not just Xenogears (both ISO's and CD's in the drive), and they all suffer the same fate. I'll get about 5 seconds of normal speed game (cut scenes, dialogue, FMV's, doesn't matter), followed by another 5 seconds of frozen screen (as the game continues on in the background without me).

I'm running ePSXe 1.7.0 on 64 bit Win7. I've fiddled with PEC's "refresh rate" thing, and it's position doesn't seem to matter or affect it at all. The actual video plugin I'm running is Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.9, with the following settings (please note, these were set pretty low to champion smooth gameplay over anything else as I often stream PSX games, and it needs to be as non-resource hungry as possible.)

Anybody have any ideas? It's really bothering me :\

The thing is, the same cheats being active cause the exact same slowdown in every game I have. Also, after having tested just now, turning the cheats off, but running through PEC anyway, the games still suffer the same slowdown issue.

then it is simple dont use it as it seems your system isnt powerful enough for program that captures ram... if you seriously using a netbook or worse then nothing can be done about it...

also try other cheat methods maybe it will be different

I find it weird to think my system isn't strong enough seeing how recently I built it... It's definitely not a netbook! I'm not that silly haha.

Intel Core i3 CPU @ 3.07GHz, 4GB Ram, ATI Radeon HD 5700... It's not exactly old and sluggish :\

Do you have any suggestions for alternate methods? It has to be a gameshark system of some kind, as there's just no cheats at all for the game through traditional means.

My PC is roughly three years old and I can run PEC just fine. Perhaps you need to tweak some settings. Go back to the GPU Plugin settings window and manually set the VRAM from 0/Autodetect to whatever number your video card is set at. For example, if it has 1024MB, set the value to 1024. ATI cards can be very picky about this sort of thing.

My vram is indeed 1024MB, but the plugin I'm using only goes as high as 512MB. Incidentally, changing this hasn't fixed the issue...

Do you have any recommendations for another GPU plugin? It could just be that Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.9 doesn't play well with PEC.

I run both at the same time, so the plugin shouldn't be causing the issue. Try updating the drivers or using the OpenGL 1.78 plugin.

no it wont work because xenogears cant have memory frozen for extended times as it reuses memory addresses so infinite fuel from robot to another value for the human charastic or rendering outside of battle hence it will slowdown and crash as the game wont be able to change the required memory address for something else as its frozen... heh, it just proves how much the game pushes the ps1 memory to the limit
