Not sure if the disparity is that high but 3.6GHz Core i7 will be faster than 3.6GHz Phenom II, clock for clock, core for core. When you look at the pricing (at stock clock), though, AMD wins...

Edit:
Apparently, the disparity is that high. Just compared the Core i7 920 2.66GHz to the Phenom II X4 965BE 3.4GHz on Anand's charts and they're trading blows, with the Core i7 coming ahead. If you take into account the overclocking potential on the i7...

yeah, but the Phenom II X4 line is more a competitor of the i5 line, i7 CPUs have 8 threads and that can make a huge difference,(I think the upcomming Thuban line of AMD could be a more suitable competitor to the i7 line), also the price, at least here i7 models are very expensive (920 at $400 bucks) without counting the mobo that costs less but is expensive too.

If you have the money then for God's sake go with intel, but if you want a CPU that performs OK in almost all SW enviroments then AMD is the way to go, price wise MHz per MHz, Core per Core.

I think you mean dollar for dollar or performance on the dollar (or whatever equivalent currency). Clockspeed doesn't really mean anything unless it has the performance to back it up. :D

Just a note, Phenoms were originally in the $200+ price range. It was only when the Core i5-750 2.66GHz ($196 1Ku) was released which had similar performance that AMD was forced to drop the price of even its top processor. :p

I think you're right, english isn't my native lenguage, sorry for that.

Talking about the CPU you can take into consideration buy a Callisto model (Phenom II X2) and unlock the 2 extra cores, I did that and I save more than $100 bucks for an equal performance with the X4 940 model (without counting the OC), It's not guarranted but It's defenitely worth it.

So, If your budget lets you then pick up the better HW you can, other than that it exists various options that will give you a very nice performance for less money.

Can you guys stop recommending AMD for a PCSX2 pc? Please?
It's no secret PCSX2 likes Intels. You still need 30% more cpu clock on an AMD system
to match an Intel one in PCSX2.
Native x86/x64 applications (pc games) are different, and on those it might make sense to get an AMD.

JoonKimDDS:
PCSX2 still actively uses only 2 cores. Any more you throw at it will be used by the GUI processing, but that doesn't mean more than 2% advantage at best.

If it 's the instruction ... sorry it doesn't matter to me because 90% of my games runs full speed if I overclock my 955 to 3.6 ghz which is pretty easy

And besides 30% more cpu clock ... you're exaggerated , it's not that much , to me it 's more like 10% ...

Guys i why my comp run pcsx2 laggy?

My Comp Spec:

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7500 @ 2.93GHz
3.0 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4300 Series

is it ok to run if yes tell me why is it laggy?
Your processor is a bit on the lowend side. I would recommend atleast another 500-600 Mhz for that line of processors. I've got the E7400 and running it at around 3,6 Ghz stable. The E7500 should be able to go even higher. Search around for 'E7500 overclocking', but be warned.. overclocking CAN damage your processor if you go to far. Dont touch voltages unless you know what your doing.

The graphics card isnt all to hot either.

When looking at a benchtest, they mostly use core aware applications.

i7 has 8 threads, phenom 2 has 4. In pcsx2, unless software mode is used, the extra 4 threads don't count

It will be faster clock for clock but it's more akin to the 3.4ghz phenom 2 equaling a 3.1 ghz i5/i7

Nope. 3.4GHz Phenom II is more like 2.8~2.9GHz Core i5/i7 quad and around 3GHz Core i3. It's very close clock for clock with Core 2 Duo's, though. High Turbo Boost on the Lynnfields (i5-7x0 & i7-8x0) make the performance gap even wider compared with Deneb. You'd have to overclock the Phenom II by quite a bit in order to compensate.

So u mean i should overclock my processor and my graphic cards sucks..
For most of the games you don't have to overclock your processor if you use speed hacks, but you still need a better graphic card, the HD 4300 series is not for gaming.

With a HD 4850 (or above) or a GTS 250 (or above) you will get playable speed on almost all the games with your processor. (I get full speed on almost all the games i tested with my E8200 2.6 ghz using speed hacks, and i tested a bunch).

Edit: BTW you will probably need a new power supply for those cards too, get a 500W power supply (or higher) with a 6-pin power connector. Good card requires extra power from the power supply.

Don't. First read some faq, sticky, manual, how-to, google about overclocking then ask around in tech forum if you have any question.

One wrong setting and your computer could be blown away, you should not do it if you don't know what you're doing.
