So some of you may already know my psu was shot when irene(as a tropical storm) passed over my island. I ordered a new one and recieved it today. I plugged it into the wall and tested it with a paper clip and all was well. Plugged it in.......didn't go on at first, plugged it into a different socket and it worked. Pc booted got in, tested some games and found the back of the psu was hot. Unplugged it to see if anything was miss, plugged it back in and tried to turn it on and the LED light for the pc is now just flashing(it won't boot). All the fans and the mobo light are still working.........I tried a bit later and now the LED doesn't even light up(though everything else does). I hear 1 short beep.

Any advice?

EDIT:Unplugged everything but essentials and it still does the same thing :\.

I doubt it's the PSU again but is there any chance something could have happened to the PSU in between the time you tested it to the time you installed it in the PC? If it's not the PSU I'd have to agree with Yelo that it sounds like the motherboard may be shot.

I triple checked them, no dice. I read somewhere that if even the tiniest thing is wrong with the motherboard the 430 cx won't boot it because of its protection or some such.

Update, I took out all of the ram and put in 1.......its now booting normally...is it possible that some of the ram fried and not all of it?

TF? I put all 3 in and its still booting............maybe its that I moved the psus wires away from the mobo?

I just booted it 5 times(F false hopes) and its working.....now just gotta get through recovery mode.

It is certainly possible. The initial surge may still have reached the motherboard before killing the PSU, damaging the RAM module bad enough to create a partial short. (melted internals) Restoring power with such a condition would finish the job that the surge started.

Well I just got in the desktop......and now I feel the need to backhand something for making me worry. I believe it was the power supplies chords touching the mobo? Idk :\.......but its booting fine now. Even though the LED on the case still dont light up.

1 beep means ram in standard post codes iirc.

Read the manual for the board and check
Its definitely not the memory

Told you. U got tooooollllld

Yeah, individual sticks can go bad out of sets and if you mix sets then be sure to have them in the right pairing sockets.
It's also possible that the rams pre-stored jdec (?) timings clash with other sets and by changing position, the bios changes the settings for all sticks.

Sometimes things get freaky and the ram solder isn't too solid and cracks like a rrod 360. Maybe you pushed it back to contact or heat helped out a bit.

Lots of weird possibilities.

.........screw behind the motherboard?
..backs away....

Nah...I dont think it was the ram. The only thing I had done new that time was move the psu wires from cluttering the mobo.

maybe, when I replaced my PSU back in May if the PSU wires touched the upper right part of my mobo it would short out my pc causing a reboot. so I I just took velcro cable ties and put the cables out of the way.

It's not uncommon for power failures to cause damage on the power connectors of a mobo.

Take the PSU to mobo power connectors off and check if any pins on the mobo power connectors are black (or at least darker than they should). If that's the case then mobo needs trashing.

It could also be damaged power system on the house (by the storm and such) or (less likely) a bad-on-arrival PSU.

Crazy space age wireless power transmissions?
or some glitchy ram issue that had evidence in both reseating fixing the issue and the post code was one beep?

u decide

I think it was a ghost

..damn space ghost

remember to memtest and check the motherboard voltages
