Is it better to leave the power on for an old PS2 in other words pressing and holding the Reset button or just pressing the power button in the back to completely shut it off.

Yep it's me I had to buy another PS2 this time an old fat one. I tried to fix my slim PS2 (opening it up and everything) but didn't succeed.

will someone answer?

Shut it down in the back. PS2 got issues with crap heat-shrink, give it some "rest" quickly. I used SCPH-30001 the cable which connects front-power-swich was broken i thought it 'cause its too hot when i was playing games.

Edit:
Correction@That's SCPH-30001, Not SCPH-3001.

Hold down reset then when it's in standby power off behind. I aim a desk fan at the console, haven't had any heat problems even though I live in the tropics and that thing gets 16+ hour workouts some days. 4 years, same fat PS2.
