im looking for a psx game (working with epsxe, of course) with the following:

- best if sprites (not 3d)
- classes (like blue dragon, FFV...) / insane amount of characters (chrono cross)
- not too hardcore (unlike wizardry)
- inmersive story (grandia too shallow)
- best if long gameplay (over 40-50 hours)
- low grinding
- interactive battles (tales of, valkirie, legend dragoon...)

is it possible?

importants are classes and grinding, rest is optional :p

also, it there any good rpg with puzzle elements like GBA's golden sun and SNES' lufia which uses "magic" to interact with the enviroment and solve riddles/puzzles?

maybe im asking too much, but my perfect game would be:

- story like an old FF (long but not tedious)
- classes/jobs from FFV (dozens to choose from)
- graphics from suikoden (sprites over 2d art)
- battle system like tales of... (dynamic and spam spells to master them)
- music from FFVI (terra theme FTW)
- customizable spells / powers like in grandia or golden sun
- etc

impossible, right? :p

PS: i dont understand why all the fuss about xenogears... its pretty normal to me, and the camera is what keeps me from playing (that and that gears are utterly overpowered). but maybe cos i havent played that much (still at bandits/pirates den, after desert)... should i keep playing?

thanks

Then you should try Star Ocean (SNES) as well. DeJap's English patch is pretty good for both ToP and this game.
Final Fantasy 1 has a decent remake for GBA, and you get to choose the classes for your heroes.
Four Heroes Of Light for DS is a kinda reimagining of that game, with classes unlocked by aquiring hats.
Lufia 2 (or plain Lufia in Europe) is also worth a shot. As is Final Fantasy 6.
EDIT: In Secret of Mana 2 (Seiken Densetsu 3), you get to choose 3 characters out of 6 (Swordsman, Thief, Werewolf/Fistfighter, Spearwoman, Mage, Healer), all of which have 2 sets of class evolutions, changing them towards offensive or supportive classes.
EDIT 2: Summon Night 1 and 2 for GBA has a combat system similar to Tales of Phantasia, with 5 distinct types of weapons (sword, axe, spear, gloves and drill) and a good story.

Appearantly. Square jumped Nintendo during the SNES's late cycle (after Chrono Trigger, before FF VII), and Enix was also mostly Nintendo (DQ, the Soul Blazer trilogy).

If you like interactive battles, you can't go wrong with Mario games: Super Mario RPG for SNES, Mario & Luigi series for GBA and DS and the Paper Mario series for N64 and GC.
In GBA's Sonic Battle, you play several Sonic universe characters and a unique robot called Emerl that can learn and mix the moves of every other fighter.

Well they're fun games...but they're nothing like what you want.
