I pluged my used iPaq into it's cradle and powered it on, it worked so I set it up on my comp, but when I went to take it off the cradle, it died! Under Power in Settings in the System tab, it shows nothing under "Main Battery" other than a 0 and 100% on ether side of the screen. I downloaded WR-Tools ResInfo 1.30, installed it and went to the battery tab and it showed no charge, nothing in the bar, but it did say "Backup Battery: high" under that.

oh yeah, this thing can go into a type of hybernation mode, do you think that I may need to charge it overnight befor I can use it? That's what I'm doing now.

Stupid question i know, but is there a battery in it? My h1945 has a removable battery and I think it needed to be put in before you turned it on.

That's what I'm afraid of, it may not have one, it's not removable so if the guy is going to be a prick and not take it back or if it don't start working, I'm going to open it up and check it out.

if its not easily removable, i dont know why they would even want it. How long are you keeping it on the cradle before you take it off?

gememan733, at first I was taking it off after setting it up, but I read how long it would take to charge(3 hours) and tryed it after that, I have done that twice now and the battery has not even been charge 1%

RZetlin, maybe, but the guide I found on the net said that it's battery does not have a merory effect and constand charging and discharging is not bad for it.

It's still usable. Just never take it out of the cradle.

So I did some searching online and found a lot of people with this problem, and most of them replaced the battery for about $50 and got back to work. Now this pissed me off, how the hell can one of the most advanced battery systems die after just 2 years, espessly if it has no memory effect and constant charge and discharging doesn't hurt it. Well I found my answer, it's the cradle. The batter accualy gets weak enough where the cradle won't charge it (it's build with a safty system that tops the battery off, but won't over charge it and when it gets low enough, this system works in reverse, it won't charge). So the way to get around this problem is to plug the iPaq directly into the current, ie a wall or car charger. This is the reason why the setup guide told you to first plug the iPaq directly into the wall befor putting it on the cradle (pluging it into the wall deacatvates the hybernate mode, allowing the battery to charge on the cradle). The problem is, I was not given the power adapter. I have the power cord, but it needs an attachment so I can plug it into the iPaq. I'm going to go to the store and get a car/wall charger to test this out, if it doesn't work, then I'll be really pissed.

"Spit-it-out-all-ready!!" version: I think I got it...

ummmm...didn't the ipaq's have a battery problem?? or was it Ipods?? I remember one or the other having a huge issue with the battery dying. It was big news a couple years ago. Apple were having to replace them.

See I was correct about the battery.

I hope you got a warranty on the unit.

For me I got a three year store warranty for my Palm.

Yeah, Ipods non-replaceable batteries died after about 18 months, then you would have to ship them to Mac and spend more than the damned thing was worth to fix it. I asked a guy at the local Mac store about it and he sait "18 months is still pretty good for a battery" WTF?! Why not make it replaceable and make it ****ing wonderful?

Bout my Ipaq, I talked to the guy I got it from and he said just to send it back and he'll repalce it. I'm waiting to ask him about what all should I send; just the unit, the unit, cradle and power cords, or everthing I got.
