There's a simple solution: Use FFX2MOV (found here). Gigahertz's tool doesn't work on them.
ffx2mov works only with the NTSC (U)/(J), PAL (E) versions or so.
because it use fixed LBA offsets to locate the Movies on the DVD.

an better solution to locate the movies is via the LBA and filetype table on the dvd because this should work with all versions then.
this is was i use to make my ffx-2 movie extractor.
it doesn't work with ffx1 because the movies are encrypted

The LBA/sector table is on sector 280 (offset 573440)
file type table on sector 344 (offset 704512)
Movie filetype should be 21 or 49.

when the author of ffx2mov can read this,
so please take a look on this source:
http://www.geocities.com/macbearchen/data/demo_ffb_xkm.zip

look into the dumper.cpp, thats the FFX dumping code.
its from yaz0r and modified by mcbear.

Which CDVD plugin works with this program? I'm trying each and every CDVD plugin that comes with pcsx2 0.9.1 and 0.9.2 but it won't recognize them.

[EDIT]
Nevermind, I had to pull the plugins all the way back from version 0.6.

[EDIT]
I've been testing this program on various games that I have already extracted the FMVs for using the "Extractor Method" and the game I just tried was Shadow the Hedgehog. I was forced to use Method 2 to find anything and it found many FMVs but only 7 of them were legit. However when I extracted them using the "Extractor Method" I got an 8th FMV from it. The Extractor program crashed on me after that so since this program didn't find any more I'm guessing that's all there is. The FMV in question is when the Black Alien is showing Shadow his past and what happened to him on the Arc. One version begins with a Red sky (the version this program found) and the other has a blue sky (the missing FMV). Just thought I would bring that to your attention. I will try see if I can find out what sector the missing FMV starts on if I can find my copy of that Extractor program again.

It's nice to see that people is still interested in the program. I'm not updating it anymore, tho. I coded it in VB6 and I'm not using it anymore (I didn't even bother installing vs6 the last reinstall).

I attached the last exe of the program I coded. It supports cdvd plugins for the latest pcsx2, but I don't think I fixed anything from the last version I uploaded here. This might count as the last FMVTool release.

I have been thinking about it and I MIGHT code a new tool someday, from the beginning and in another language. I'm not sure what language could I use tho, because dialogs in C++ are a pain, while using native dlls from C# is harder (not harder than using them from vb6 tho).

LOL ... well I'm out of money now, and the ps3 isn't available in spain yet, so if you really want me to have ps3 discs to "check", you will have to buy me a bd-rom drive and some games, and also get me some docs on what kind of videos do they use on ps3 games... that's if they use FMVs at all. :p

This tool finds and extracts MPEG2 streams in the disk data, not necessarily from ps2 games... I suppose mpeg1 and mpeg4/divx/x264/... streams using a MPEG container should be as easy to detect and extract as MPEG2 ones, but I never tried. :p

The problem with other formats is they are usually propietary... and sometimes the docs are confidential, so it's not as easy to write the code to extract them as mpeg2, but as I said in the first post, if someone gives me info about the format, I can try to add detection code for it.

heheh, watched MGS4 tariler and FF 13 trailer, the In-game Engine already created very beautiful video quality :D

maybe PS3 wont use any FMV....
no FMV ---> cant rip it and cant store FMVs on my PC :(

btw, thanks for the FMVtool, its realy an easy to use program to find mpegs

now im searching apps to read PS2 ATRAC audio, project-fao can do it with their app that convert ff12 FMVs, but that just for FF12, ut i want to convert my gundam seed FMVs and KH2 :D

and again, thanks GiGaHeRz !!
sorry, cant give you BD drive or PS3....
i also short-on-money
when i buy ps2 3 years ago, i need to save money for 3years :D,
and for PS3,,, just toooooooooo expensive

I think you should keep working on this as I think you are the only one that has come this far in PS2 FMV extraction. Also you should include searching for MPEG1 streams as well as I found out that all but 1 FMV in the game Dark Watch uses MPEG1 as it's video stream. I was able to use method 2 to find almost all of the FMVs (I think) but a lot of them had corrupted video or were cut off and I still haven't looked for that extractor program to see if it's just some kind of strange encoding or the way they were ripped off the disc by your program.

hm this is just strange...
i have all VB runtimes installed but i only hear a *wumm* sound when i run the FMVTool.exe oO
no error message appears...

Sorry to bump an old thread but I was wondering if anyone successfully extracted the Metal Gear Solid 3 - Existence movies? I tried Gigaherz's FMV tool but I am unable to get any sound from the video.

Any help guys or solutions?

i ripped all the scenes from MGS3 a while back, although i have no idea where the program is.

Although there is one thing i can tell you. Its not worth the time and effort. It doesnt extract anything amusing only the scenes where you see mpegs of WW2. It doesnt extract the ingame scenes because all story scenes are pre-rendered (except of course the trailer at the start of the game).

You could of at least said please instead of using imperative tones lol

But anyways here it is:

I cant really understand why you couldnt find as it was like the 4th link on the main page of the Misc PS2 Discussion.

If you have any problems with the extractor post it in that thread not this one as i believe its only meant for gigaherz's tool.
