To what extent is the FPS of the PCSX2 emulator dictated by the graphics rendered?

for example
Disgaea and Disgaea 2 will play wonderfully well on my PC 40-50fps
which is a 3.0ghz p4 1.5gigs of ram and a 6600GT
But Super Robot wars Alpha 3 will only do 15-20 yet the graphics are pretty similar, 2d sprites with simple 3d effects and background.

but then again Gundam Battle Assualt 3 will only work at like 7-8 fps

*note* the fps is even crappier on ZeroGS ( i suppose its due to that horrible p4 CPU )

could it be that the speed difference to due the way the emulator or game is written?

also is PCSX2 faster in Linux?

Actually Super Robot Wars Alpha 3 is quite a graphic intensive game, in normal eyes, the battle scenes look like 2D, but in reality, it's 3D, it's almost no different from a real 3D model because nearly every joints in every robot has to be rendered in 3D because it makes movements smoother, another 3D graphic has to be substituted when the actual "sprite" actually changes.

Also, the ZeroGS plugin is even more graphic intensive than GSDX, which means since you have a 6600GT (A relatively weak card in these days.), expect slower performance in ZeroGS compared to GSDX. Only when you switch to at least a 7800GT will you see the ZeroGS faster than GSDX.

one prob with what you just said,

Its the battle scene that runs the fastest at like 40 fps
but the map part runs at 15-20 fps.

actually that can go with exactly what he said, whos to say the map screen hasnt just got a stupidly high poly count? like MGS2, ive had 2d text saying "this is a demo, the voices are still in japanese" running slower than the actual game!!

2d or 3d doesnt matter if there is a high poly count involved, id compare the 2 before you compare 2d looking views to 3d.

15 thousand poly`s is rather low even. But that`s per frame multiply that by 60.And you get 900 000 polys per sec.So the PS2 can execute about two milion texetured, mapped and added lightning polys to the screen so that`s really half the power of the PS2.I bet the most graphicly intensive games are God of War and perhaps Re4 and Tekken4.MGS3 isn`t that graphicly intense it has nicer lithining efects and textures that`s about it.

The pc isn`t your problem a game like HL2 and especially RTS games like Warhammer wich i know has on a large battle scene over 300 thousand polys per frame.Thats like atleast 15-18milion for 50-60fps.And your pc can play that well.Thats cause of the emulation is not perfect or even half perfect at this time, but for free and in spare time what do you expect.

Supreme Commander on the other hand is killing my computer +P...especially since u can get up to 50000 units per player +P...i think!

Yeah i heard that supreme commander can do up to 2 milion polys per scene thats like 120milion in order to get 60fps.I`m not shure that any card out there can do 60fps in that game.

hey i got an idea, couldnt we do like a test to see what config of PC can churn out how many polygons, and then we make like a chart to see how that works, then for games and stuff we post the average number of polygons and so we can see if our PC is capable of playing that game.

You mean a benchmarking program for the PCSX2? It's a good idea, why don't you start it off for us :D?

Ok, enough of being an @$$...but seriously, that's what the screenshots thread is for (to some extent) and many other FAQs and stickies.

Thats useless cause same PCSX2 games that are more intensive can run faster than not so intensive ones. This is not a matter of so powerfull hardware but a better emulation process.
