First, let me congratulate the development team for this wonderful emulator. They've done a wonderful job so far and their efforts are appreciated.

My problem is this:

I get the emulator running well, achieving around 60+ fps with full graphics and sound in the two games I've tried (Kingdom Hearts and Star Wars Bounty Hunter).

Howver, I can't seem to get the gamepad I'm using to work properly. It's a Thrustmaster dual analog 3 controller and works perfectly in the Control Panel tests. It even seems to be fully detected and working in the PCSX2 (0.94 and 0.95 Beta) configuration panel but I can't get the analog stick directions to work properly in game - the only direction I can go is up and down. This aven seems to be the case when using the keyboard instead of the gamepad. All the other gamepad buttons appear to work perfectly.

I've tried Lilypad 0.91, Megapad and a few others but they all display the same behaviour. I've checked for any other gamepad - keyboard mapping software and none is running when I have these issues.

Does anyone have any suggestions of what might be wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

I have a Intel 6850 dual core processor running at 3 ghz, 4GB of Ram, and a 512mb 8800 GT video card. Latest official drivers for all. Latest DirectX drivers. Windows XP sp2.

You have this issue in both Kingdom Hearts and Star Wars Bounty Hunter, right? As you have the problem with every pad plugin and when using the keyboard as well, it sounds like a PCSX2 issue rather than a pad plugin issue; however, I know Kingdom Hearts shouldn't have this issue.

Thanks for the reply ChickenLiver (What ARE you, Chickenliver!?! - Why, yes actually...:))

I suspect it must be something I'm doing wrong though - surely the pad should word if it's being detected in the config panel in Lilypad for example. It does the same thing with the keyboard if I set keys for directions instead of using the gamepad.

In the menus for Kingdom hearts though I can get the selections to change by pushing the analog stick in any direction - leading me to suspect it's partially working but in game it's just up and down. I've tried this on two pc's now and it's the same on both.

Since I'm very new to this I suspect it's probably operator error on my part but I'm not sure what else to try. I do hope I can get this going though, otherwise I'll be forced to go and buy a new PS2 for my son as a replacement for the one we had that just broke (Hence my discovery of this emulator).

I take it that controller issues are not common problems then?

Some controller problems are common... Controller problems run into by people who sound like they know what they're doing that don't involve force feedback and that involve the same issue with multiple pad plugins are not common, however.

Edit: In LilyPad, try selecting the controller and pressing the "Test device" button. Make sure the analog horizontal axis goes from -1.0 to 1.0. Doesn't sound like calibration is the issue, however.

Also, try enabling logging and then hold down the stick (Either to the left or the right) as you start running either game. Wait for the game to starts accepting pad input (Skip the intro and get to the main menu or something) and then close the emulator. Before restarting the emulator (And disabling logging. File will be cleared on restart), compress the logs\padLog.txt and attach it to a post here. Do the same thing with a key bound to left stick right or left and post that file, too, clearly identifying which is which.

Thanks for the advice Chickenliver. I think I've found the problem - the range reported for the primary x axis of the gamepad was only about +/- 0.2. I went back into control panel and it still seemed to be working fully there - i.e covering the whole range. I did a manual recalibrate anyway and now it is working properly as far as I can tell.

Thank you very much for taking the time to respond and thanks for making the Lilypad plug-in.
