The only one I used when I was still on dial-up and before Googles rise to power was HotBot. After broadband though, Google, Yahoo and others started pulling ahead because of massive advertisement. A shame really, HotBot was a solid engine then.

I remember I used to use Excite and Lycos, back when webrings, link exchanges, and web directories were a better way to find anything than any search engine.

After being introduced to Google somehow -- I think I saw a reference to it in an article and followed the link in the footnote -- I found myself so captivated by the simple front page and excellent results that I pretty much forgot about everything else.

 

I'd be curious if I see anything else other than Google lol

I used Altavista before that though. And I used a program called Copernicus I think. It was a meta-search engine, but it pretty much lost sense after discovering google

 

Found Google about 6 years ago, before I just used the built in MSN search in Internet Explorer.

i used to use yahoo a lot, but eventually uni forced me to start using google because of google scholar.
