ePSXe + Daemon (on analog audio) = BSOD

Hi,

I just bough new computer:
E8400@3Ghz
Twintech Geforce 8800Gt
2x2Gb Gskill PC6400

And since ePSXe have strange things:

I use ISO format from psx disc for optimizing CDROM access(can be slow or have some hang otherwise).
Original games running "normal" (with sound)
But CCD/BIN+CUE/MDS etc if Daemon (or others virtual drive) have analog audio activate when audio start to read:
Blue Screen with:
"Crucial Thread"
STOP : 0x0000000F4

I tryed so many things xD
PCSX 1.5 seem have same issues.
SSSPSX and pSX 1.9 doesn't have(they work).

If audio card are disabled -> no problem (and no sound at all ^^!).
If i use another emulator -> (SSSPX) it work great.
If i disable analog audio -> working great (but i lost any music playing from disc :()

I tryed on safeboot and same things.
I tryed on safeboot /DSrepair and all work oO
I reformated all and with only Graphic driver/Sound driver and Motherboard driver -> All crash again and again.

I really want use ePSXe again (for play and test) :(

I tryed all i can - if anyone have any idea?
Thanks for any comment.

(ps - format aren't good allready tryed :'()

im not really sure. i think a stop 0x000000f4 error is a critical_object_termination. which tells you that a process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated. im guessing upon their start up whatever programs you are using might be shutting off something that your system needs active in order to function correctly. what O/S are you using?

edit- btw this is what the troubleshooting FAQ mentions about CDDA (ive highlighted a part you might want to take note of)-

"if you're playing off an ISO, you can't use ePSXe's built in "run ISO" command; it doesn't support CDDA audio. you'll have to load the image using Mooby's CDR plugin OR mount the image to a virtual drive (in both these cases, you need to use File-->Run CD). furthermore, if it's a bin/cue image, you cant simply run it with the bin. you'll need the cue file as well to tell the emulator where the audio tracks are."

were you by chance using sp2 before this or what?

#6 ·
so did this ever happen while you were using sp2? ive yet to make the jump to sp3 so i dont really know any bugs or quirks it might have but if this just started happening after you began using sp3 it might be worth your time to switch back to sp2 to see if this still happens because its possible whatever is triggering this might be related to sp3 (and im stressing the word "might" here).

I think no...

SP2 and SP 3 = Same issue

If no problem before i don't update to SP3 (anyway no change with that :()

The only strange thing are with "safeboot /DSrepair" it work....

If i remeber all i read about that, safeboot load only minimum for find problem.
I tryed to load with minimum manually and don't work.
I really want to know where are from that problem x_X

ok i dont think it is a hardware issue, i believe what is happening is that one of the programs or threads your system needs active in order to function is being shut down or disabled by another program. if you say this crash happens when you enable analog audio, then it must be related to whatever programs you are using to do that. have you tried using moobys cdr plugin as mentioned in the FAQ to load the image files for games with cdda audio instead of using daemon tools?

did you read this though? you say you still dont get any music even if you have a .cue file?

Here is my generic response to games with CDDA:

Make an ISO image of the game (i suggest that you make one with alcohol 120%).

Use Mooby2 cd disk image driver (cd-rom plugin) and configure it like this:
  • Repeat all CDDA tracks.
  • Enable subchannel data.
  • CDDA Volume bar to the maximum (value 1.00).
After that go to File -> Run CDROM (not Run -> ISO) and browse to the image you made earlier.

The sound should work now, if not make sure that 3 top boxes in the sound config are checked.

What's your Daemon version? 3.29 (if I remember well) crashed on me.

You said you reformatted and all... but did you UPDATE the drivers? (i.e checking the manufacturer's site and downloading the latest stuff)

And third, can you use another image mounting software? I've been using Alcohol 120% for months now and it pwns Daemon Tools IMO. ;p

edit: And try muddy's help as well!

well like i said earlier, that BSOD error means that a thread or process that your system needs to be active in order to function is being shut off or terminated by either another program or another process, you need to find out what that process is and stop it from being shut off. if i had to guess i would say your best bet is in system error logs or something that keeps track of recent system errors and if you are logging on through an administrator account, this information should be available to you through some means.

I looked on "evenement report" and nothing on (no report :()

EDIT -
I tryed somethings:
ePSXe + daemon + analog audio enabled = crash
ePSXe + daemon + analog audio disabled = no crash
SSSPSX + daemon + analog audio enabled = no crash
Psxeven + daemon = doesn't boot game oO
Pcsx 1.5 + daemon + analog audio enabled = crash
Pcsx 1.5 + daemon + analog audio disabled = no crash
ePSXe + Run iso (if Bin+Cue) analog audio work
ePSXe + Run iso (if CCD+Img) analog audio doesn't work

Tryed few other emulator too (NullDC/PCSX2 etc) -> all working good xD

maybe daemon got some trouble with your machine setup. then use other way of mounting it.
I know I got bsod on dosbox but then I found out it is due to a third party firewall.

after uninstalling and install zone alarm firewall then it is free of errors.

i would go with that then.

I have the same problem here with daemon tools and analog audio.
The problem is that epsxe and pcsx will use analog audio always and ssspsx use digital (so if analog is enabled ssspsx will not BSOD). This happen with other emus and with windows games as well, and it's a know bug for daemon and some systems when it comes to use analog audio emulation. As 3.47 is the last one with that support they never were able to fix the problem.
In my other pc I can use it perfect without any problem at all.

I must use my "old" computer i guess :/

I just ordered a "KVM" for use both comp in a row :\

Not perfect but i doesn't have any other idea xD

EDIT: i have some problem for rebuilt old comp xD

-> VisintX :
U can tell me your config?

Mine are:
E8400@3.6Ghz (without overclock always crash :/)
2x2Gb Gskill PC6400
Asus P5E
Twintech Geforce 8800Gt [512DDR3]
Zalman CNPS7700AlCu
Advance 8505B ATRIX
Sound card (with P5E) X-FI PCI 1x [tested with Sound Blaster Audigy -> same results)
2 HDD [1x maxtor 320Gb(SATA) + 1x Hitachi 160Gb(SATA)]
2 Optical drive [1x Liteon DVD-Ram(SATA) + 1x IISonic DVD(IDE)]

CDDA is only supported as long as both the internal spu, and cdr plugins are used.

Other plugins however use CDA, which requires the old analogue cable between CDRom and sound card.

Argl - just few minutes ago i get my 1st BSOD with ePSXe 1.7.0 xD

-> with:
Pete OGL2 2.9
Internal CDR
And Eternal SPU 1.50...

It seem doesn't have problems if i use Internal Sound plugin...
i not really understand what happen x_X
