CDDA Under Windows XP Problem

As much as I try, CDDA doesn't seem to work with any of my games in ePSXe. I've been messing around primarily with Dead or Alive. CDDA DOES work when I make an ISO and load it into Daemon's Tools, though (and I've noticed by tinkering with my Windows Volume Control that the music playback is not affected by the volume of my CD-Drive, leading me to believe that it's a pc audio problem, not an emulator or CD problem). I've tried burning the ISO onto a CD, and I ended up with the same issues--the game stutters when trying to load an audio track (and ultimately the game continues without the audio being played), or the game in some instances will hang. I've tried everything I can think of, and even the ISO of the burn works correctly, leading me to believe that it's something to do with either ePSXe, Windows XP, or my sound settings. Megaman X3 has the same problems, and many other Windows native games refuse to play CD-Audio, as well (such as Civilization II). Just wondering if anybody else had problems with CD audio and how and if they were able to fix it. Thanks in advance.

My guess is that if reading an ISO from a CD doesn't work correctly but it works fine on your hard drive, there is a problem with your CD-ROM drive (possibly with constantly streaming data as you said it's a CDDA problem). Is there another CD drive you could try it on? Have you installed an ASPI layer?

Er... by "burn the iso to a CD" I meant actually make a stand alone CD from the ISO file... in any case, I've tried the CD on two computers, and each computer has two CD-ROM drives (the DVD and a CDR). This is driving me nuts in any case, and I have no clue what the problem could be... Since this problem spans multiple computers, I'm thinking that it could be Windows XP, but other people under XP aren't having these problems...

Edit: I installed an ASPI layer but it didn't help anything.

is the audio cable actually plugged to both your cd drive and your sound card? CDDA goes directly trough it, not the CPU.

Hmm... I haven't actually opened up my case, but since CD music isn't working in most of my PC games, either, that seems to be the most likely cause. However, I still can listen to CD music through Windows Media Player, though, so I don't know if that means that the audio cable is plugged into the CD drive and sound card or not. Anyway, thanks for all the replies.

When you listen to music through Windows Media Player, does the light on the drive blink very quickly and erratically or does it blink slowly and regularly or solid on? I'm thinking the games that don't work are trying to use the analog audio cable but WMP is set to use digital audio which goes over the IDE cable (which would explain why it works fine in WMP but not in some games).
