Taking back my hp lol since i can't overclock it. So i was going 2 build my own with a freind who know alot more than me.Was also wondering if any of you had any real ideas of a computer i could build for 2,000. looking for a fast one so i can run pcsx2 at full speed with no problem. In other word i want a *****ing compture. I am doing some checking around but am new 2 this so if you could help i would apreciate it.

i dont know if you can get a system that can pull that off for under $2000, you will be looking at the high high end machines.

yeah now that kickass videocards are avaibable for $300 dollars instead of $700, you can really get a good kickass computer. Especially if your only counting the cost of the tower.

Put an extra $100 into a motherboard, so look in the $200+ price range get one that can overclock well. Put get some premium ddr2 ram that is rated for 1066 or higher. Get an intel penryn cpu... perferably the 8400 as the quad cores are hard to comeby and offer no improvements in pcsx2.
Get a decent size case with good airflow. Perhaps the Antec 182 or 182se.

Get a good aftermarket heatsink and cpu fan(s) and system or water cooling if you wanna deal with the complications.

Get at least the 8800GT, but look at the 8800GTS and 9800GTX as well. SLI is nice, but its overrated.

Don't underspend on a good psu.

i am just getting the tower ill use my tv for a while. and 2000 is just what i can spend now since .I will be planning on installing alot more 2 it over the next couple of months.

$2000 is too overkill IMHO. It's already overkill at $1500. I'm building a friggin' micro computer with a 4GHz quad-core processor (45nm with 12MB L2 Cache), 4GB of RAM, and a 9800GTX overclocked to the point where people would cry from looking at how much I torture the components... and it doesn't cost more than $1200! I mean... top-notch coolings and everything included! For $2000, I can only imagine... of building a computer that can play Crysis on all Very High settings... at 1920 x 1200... with 16x AF... at 25-30FPS!

To get full speed (or over) in PCSX2, you don't need more than $1000 for ONE computer... and then you can use the rest to get yourself a 1920 x 1200 monitor to accommodate that monster.

Edit: Listing of components required for over full speed in PCSX2:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 4.5GHz ($230 - on average)
RAM: 4GB of DDR2 operating at 1066MHz ($200 in total)
MB: DFI Lanparty... something-ish... (either P35 or X38) ($250)
VGA: GeForce 9800GTX ($340)
Case: Something good... ($150)
PSU: Something EXTREMELY good ($130)
Cooling: $200 in total for extreme air, $550 for extreme water

$1600 for air cooling, and $1900 for water cooling

That's overkill right there... and it should be way too enough. Very few games would run less than full speed with such a setup... and you can put your computer inside a volcano... since it won't explode with that amount of cooling.

My own computer is like this:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 @ 3.80GHz (4.00GHz might be possible... once I do the NB volt mod on the MB) $340 already with overnight shipping and everything... sincerely!
RAM: 4GB of Kingston HyperX 1066MHz DDR2 ($145 already with tax and shipping)
Mainboard: ASUS P5E-VM HDMI ($150 already with tax and shipping) <= vDroop mod credits go to Allsop. But the NB volt mod might go to me... if it DOES work.
VGA: eVGA GeForce 9800GTX ($360 already with shipping and tax)
PSU: PCP&P Silencer 610W ($130 already with shipping and tax)
Case: Antec NSK3480 ($120 already with shipping and tax)
Cooling: $120 in total for top air cooler, top NB cooler, top air VGA cooler... and case fans
Other mumbo jumbos (HDD... etc...) $100

$1465 in total. Delivered all in three days right at my door... and pack some serious punches right there.

Yeah more cpu dependant, but if you play at high resolutions, unless you have at least an 8800GT or HD3870 you've experience gpu bottlenecking passed 1280x1024 (rough estimate).

Meh, even with a kick ass computer, don't expect PCSX2 to be perfect. Still a lot of games with issues

Some games will have serious GPU bottlenecking even at 1024 x 1024 or 768 x 768 even with a 8800GTS G92.

Gran Turismo 4 would be one of 'em. Most other games would have GPU bottleneck at 1280 x 1280 though. 1920 x 1920 is possible on some specific titles... like FFX.

Mmm... I have my sources? And seriously, those were estimations based on normal average consumer prices. Should be at $1200 for my complete computer. And since I can run GT4 at full speed, I guess taking the processor any further than 4GHz (or 3.8GHz for that matter) is seriously... too friggin' overkill!

$999 is a fully built computer, I think. And... they have so many Q9450s at Microcenter that you can even order one... with overnight shipping... for $11 extra! Beware of the taxed-up price, though.

And... I have gone through two 45nm quad CPUs (Q9450 and X3350, its equivalence), four 45nm dual CPUs... and god knows how many more of the other types of CPUs...

your getting the qx9650 and q9450 cpus mixed up. one is 3.2ghz and has an unlocked multiplier retailing at $999, the other is 3.0ghz with a locked multiplier and $600 cheaper.

The q9450 is pretty much impossible to find because of high demand and a willfully created shortage on the part of intel.

THe qx9650 is avaibable because most people are too smart to waste that type of money on a cpu.

Damn I haven't been keeping put to date with the recent cpu releases. I thought the qx9650 was still top dog. and was still retailing for $999

PSU... mmm... almost anything from Thermaltake would be good. Some Antec ones are good as well. Silverstone also offers some really good solution.
Top dog for performance and stability right now is PCP&C Silencer series, though. They are quite expensive, but they are dead-silent (you won't notice that the PSU is on) and they give the almost best (if not best) power on the market. Currently, most Antec, Thermaltake and Silverstone PSUs are rated at rank 3 on XS. PCP&C Silencer is rank 1.

P.S.: And in case you ask what the heck "PSU" means, it's short for Power Supply Unit.

You really don't need a new PC tylerpugsly....that Q6700 you posted in out other thread is already very good.....just maybe add in some more fans and then overclock it like you wanted...and get a better graphics card.

Maybe you should ask yourself a question: what else are you going to be using that computer for? If all you want is kick ass emulation, perhaps you should just buy a ps2. It would cost you about ~$70-120USD for the console and then at the most $50USD for games. But if you buy a computer to play pcsx2 on, you might run into some problems. PS2 emulation, albeit very advanced, is not complete. There are still some bugs to be worked out. You might want to rethink buying an expensive computer, because you might end up VERY dissapointed.
