Can someone recommend a good game controller?

I need a good game controller for emulated games on PC. I used to have the Microsoft Sidewinder, but it's terrible for Street Fighter type games. The directional pad is very stiff and unresponsive. It's barely even possible to pull off a fireball or any special move. Combos? - Forget about it.

I heared some controllers have software that allows you to change the responsiveness and sencitivity of your d-pad, but I dont know which ones exactly. I need something with nice smooth buttons and d-pad that works well with fighting games like King of Fighters and Street Figher Alpha. If anyone can help, that would be greatly appreciated.

i use nyko airflo its very nice imo. i used to have some purple thing that broke down after a few weeks of use but this one is still going with no problems. its designed like a typical ps2 or xbox controller, with a dpad and 2 analog sticks. its even got a built in fan that keeps your palms cool during long play periods. look it up on amazon or something. i got mine for around 20 bucks i think.

Yes.. But how will the PC recognize it without any software??? (sorry if that's a dumb question)
i dont think those require software on your pc, they are adapters. im not 100% on that though

If you already have a controller just buy an adaptor, if not i recommend getting the Xbox 360 controller. That baby feels awsome when holding.

I use to have a sidewinder, the pad on it sucked :p . Now have a saitek p880 it has duel analog 2 face butt 2 shoulder, almost like a ps2 but two extra face to less shoulder, its decent for a heap controller . Got mine for like $20, friend had one but it broke quick though. If yer lookin for a cheap one though its great.

i just bought one for my new pc that should be comin' soon. I've used them before and i have to say im satisfied. Very comfortable. Just download the drivers and your good to go. But only wired, i dont think the wireless plug and play connects even though its usb.
