I wanna play Final Fantasy 8 and 9, but I just can't seem to get the settings right! I'm using Pete's D3D Plugin, v1.65 (or the OpenGL if anyone recommend it). I just wanna get it as close to perfect as possible (and the swirly effect if possible). All the help is greatly appreciated!

I never got the FF8 "swirls" to look right. They usually were just alot of black gunk. This is with a GF4 4200 w/Pete's OpenGL (1.62-1.64). Framebuffer settings didn't seem to matter, altho with anything other than FVP, Squall wouldn't show up on the world map, just his shadow.

I never got them working in FF7 either. In that, it just never did anything. It went from "walking" mode to "battle" mode without any swirl, blackout, or otherwise. FF9 I managed to get looking really good, but the swirls were slow unless I used a low resolution.

u should use 640x480 for psx games and in ff7 put Framebuffer texture to 2 and framebuffer to 3 and in ff8 put framebuffer access on 0 it cause the "black gunk" to apperar. and with squalls shadow thing it happens to me if i put on fake sub. blending/fsaa

I have them woking fine in both games with both my Voodoo 5 and my GeForce 3. Head oved to my site for a guide (although it's more than due for an update)

Sorry I didn't make a screenie, but I found out what setting you need to set.
Disable advanced blending and alpha multipass. It'll be slow, but it'll work.

I have just finished playing FF7, FF8, and I am 1/2 way through FF9. I always want me settings to be right so I fool around with them for hours (literally). I have got the swirls to work perfectly in ff8 and 9. But could NEVER get one in 7. There was about a 50% chance in 8 that the swirl effectr would play at ~20 fps. Don't know why. FF9 swirls were the easiest to get going and ran perfectly. Actually, I think thye look WAY better then the ones on the PSX.

i also included a snappie of my settings

advanced blend is not essential but will make it look nice
mask bit and alpha multipass are required and will slow down the game immennsly though [at least to make it look rite]
for texture buffer
!!!it MUST be either g card and software [slow] or at emulated vram and fvp [software rendering] [even slower imo]

In FF7 you have to set the Framebuffer access to read&move and Offscreen Drawing to 3 or 4 (Didn't test it, yet).

FF8: You have to enable FVP and disable Alpha Multipass. It displays the effect look almost correctly, but it shouldn't be semi-transparent, because the framebuffer modifies itself and the screen brightens up from one side (that's the reason why there appears a sort of white bar on that side).
I hope that it will be corrected in the future...

Hey peeps when I enter a battle for ff vii It slows down and skips for like 6 seconds then just enters the battle. Is there a way to get that funky blur effect?
