I've noticed that many threads on the PCSX2 forum have been closed recently because the users have been supposedly found on the possession of shady bios, or they made comments that point at the possibility that the bios they have may have been obtained through illegal means. The cases I remember of the top of my head was a user possessing a bios from a first generation Japanese PS2, and possessing 2 BIOS versions.

My problem is that in most of those cases, the user never explicitly said that he had downloaded, or otherwise not dumped the BIOS himself. As far as I remember, NGEMU had a don't ask, don't tell policy in which unless the user pleaded himself guilty, we where just going to assume he was doing everything the lawful way. (which is how all the cartridges and non-standard devices sections have survived until now. If we were fair, we should be assuming 95% of the users don't really have all the tools to dump the games themselves).

Which is why I wanted to ask if such policy had changed recently, or if it just was an individual (and strict) intepretation of the no-warez rules by some admins.

Thank you for your attention. As always you guys do a great job herding us. It's just a minor complaint.

well, you always need to keep the line in front of the border, or you will wined up gathering people along the border line (even cross it).
I kinda agree with you, though this little thread of mine had more to do with the recent change of policy rather than the pro's and con's of being more or less strict.

What thread what this?
I referred to this thread. Sorry for my poor wording. I was just making clear that my complaint didn't have to do with the legal and moral merits of being more or less picky about the legality of emulation, but rather about this apparent change of policy from "don't ask, don't tell" to "everything you say might be used against you", and the repercussions of this change on other more sensible areas like any cartridge-based console, or anything like that.

My concern arises because it seems to me that sometimes you may be overreacting over simple statements like "I'm using this obscure bios version" immediately warrants a thread closing and a verbal warning.
