Q. which CPU to choose

i'm going to purchase a new computer, and since i'm not pro i need to ask this

is a AMD 3500+ running on S939 better
than a AMD 3700+ running on S754?

I'd go with the 3500+. Socket 939 supports has a 2000mhz fsb and the memory controll width is 128bit compared to 64bit on the socket 754

They actualy released a 3700+ on s754? I thought they discontinued high end chips on that platform.
The benefits of the dual channel memory controller are already taken into account with the ratings. However, I'd go for the 3500+ anyway as s939 is a better potential upgrade path: the FX and X2 chips are gonna be on s939.

there's no seperate 3700+ to buy, but it's sold with a packardbell computer.

but after some research, and replies here i've decided it is better off buildning my own system with 3500+ instead.

Are you still sticking with winchester instead of venice or sandiego?

guess i am, since there's no option to pick other one than winchester version of 3500+

www.newegg.com should have 3500+ vinces in, i though i saw a san deigo there also.

Also i would recommand the mobo i have in my computer specs if ur gonna be going PCIE since The DFI Lanparty NF4 mobos are the best overclockers for the 939 PCIE motherboards.

I'd go for Venice imo. These are far more stable than winchesters and better memcontroller, plus no cold bugs so far.
Quick test with vapo LS and brand new chip. Pretty good for 260€ chip :thumb:

After seeing that, I would have to say go with the venice. I own a winchester myself, and it is one hell of a processor for only running at 1.8, but it is not stable enough to be oc'ed above that no matter what I do.
