I'm not sure where to post this, just move it if I posted in the wrong forum.

I was wondering if there's any rule that says that you have to speak English in the IRC channel?

The following rules apply to the EmuForums message board (located at http://www.ngemu.com/forums) and its associated features, eg// profiles, private messages, emails, signatures, etc...
It doesn't exactly say that the rules apply to the IRC channel, but it does point out "associated features".

Please try to post in English, as that way more ppl will understand your problem and be able to answer you.
That's all I can find about this in the rules. So far I've thought it was a grey area.

the IRC channel is loosely based on the rules, because the channel isn't considered "our" property....it belongs to EFNet and they apply the rules. In other words: you can do whatever the hell you want there, as long as it complies with EFNet's rules (and if Elly isn't around ;) ) So I guess your not forced to speak English on IRC, but most likely no one will have a damn clue what you're talking about

To be honest the channel and these forums should never be compared when it comes to the rules. For example .. problems that happen on the channel shouldn't be carried over to the forums and problems on the forums shouldn't carried over to the channel. For example bans and stuff. Another thing is the ops of the channel are not always going to be the same admins from the forums.

So what I am getting at .. the rules of conduct for the forums do not control the channel as well. As far as I know there is no real set rules for the channel. I have been in the channel and an op for over 4 years now going back to #psxemu and this is how it has always been.

well i mean, general rules apply like no warez, fserves, stuff like that.

like kirby said, go ahead and speak any language you want in there, but no one is gonna know what you're saying. and mirc doesnt support any east asian languages and stuff like so dont try :p

well i dont think it's appreciated to speak another language, usually it just creates a roadblock in the channel that other people have to read around :p
