give it a rest already, he's banned :p. I think the line "Get a sense of humor" is a sarcastic way to say that he is banned already ;)

so is it ever gonna say "banned" or is it gonna stay with "get a sense of humor". i never thought of the irony

Well for smaller tv's I think 4:3 is the way to go. But if you have a 27" or higher television I would go with widescreen definately. Even though on my 20" I watch widescreen dvd's all the time. I think it gives a more theater look to it which makes the experience better. :D

Sorry to disappoint, but I didn't set his title to that ;). That was his own work:p. Slight oversight that on my part.

Anyways, back to topic... the only annoying thing with this setup is the no of remotes. Currently juggling 5 remotes and I can see it getting worse before things get better.

I hate my remotes. I got 3 which is way too many for just my room. Dont get me started on my living room! Lets see I prolly got around 6 + :p

yeah, thats what i meant. razor blade knows what im talking about. its because there are 2 types of widescreen:

"regular": this is just the movie....but wide. so it puts letterboxes, big deal. if you have a widescreen TV it stretches it up so it fits

anamorphic: you need your DVD player set on widescreen if you have a widescreen TV. on this mode, the DVD has extra lines in the X axis; when it gets stretched out vertically by a widescreen TV, it looks normal (because of more lines of resolution).

therefore, if you dont have a widescreen TV, go into your DVD settings and make sure it knows you have a 4:3 TV (normal).

by the way, im sure my explanation was confusing as hell, i think someone else can elaborate

If you have 16x9 enhanced mode on your TV, you get all 500 lines of resolution (otherwise its 480) from the DVD. (VHS is 250 lines... not sure what BETA is)

This mode focuses the electron guns, so you get the best picture possible without HDTV.

Plus some games use it too!

Soul Caliber 2
Grand theft auto 3, vice city
Star Ocean 3

I think their are more but I can't think of any... :)

also Tony hawk 4....and some other gamecube games. i went over to a friend of mine's house and he was playing some gamecube game and it was on his widescreen TV (and he showed me the widescreen option)

Widescreen all the way although its hard to find some titles in that format if you live outside the USA. Have you heard of the spiderm "special fullscreen edition"? What does it have of special? Yeah i remember: the studio in Mexico believe its a movie for kids not for fans and they will be really happy because the movie fits the screen. And there is no way to get a widescreen spiderman movie in region 4. Not to mention a lot of other really good dvds.
Btw, i remember someone asking why some people prefer widescreen if nothing happens in the sides. Well, try to see The lord of the rings in fullscreen and you will understand. Not to mention the loss of art and utilery, and a lot of other things incorporated in the movie (lets say details) that make it special that way.
Btw, widescreen is gonna be the way the tvs are gonna be produced in the future, no more 4:3. And in that time, paradoxically, the fullscreen editions will be the editions that wont fill the screen.

damn dude, that sucks....do you use an NTSC TV? maybe you should get a region 1 (US) DVD player and get US DVDs.....i dont know how close you are to the border though....maybe very far

Im in Mexico and i have to buy dvds in amazon.com in r1. Plus they have better presentation than the ones you buy in region 4. For example: the r4 xmen dvd doesn't have full motion video in the menus, just a static frame but the r1 has it. Something stupid and unfair if you ask me. They only have to insert subtitles and a spanish track, but they even waste money editing the dvd original content to make it worse. Why waste money just to make it bad?

Corporate illogic is one of the great mysteries of the universe.

Anyway, given that all TVs are going widescreen, it seems rather pointless to make any DVDs in 4:3, don't you think? Then again, you could say the same about TV programs as well.
