Well, I just ran a test in 3Dmark2003 (build330) with my... gf4mx440 :emb:
I got 165 (no, there's not zero missing)

This card sucks, I couldn't even change the settngs for the tests,
only 1 game test works, as well as the fillrate tests

I'd like to buy a GF FX 5600U, but the problem is: money :p

So, when I saw a 5600 standard with 128mb, I wondered if it was worth its price (100€)
I thought it was, but when I saw the benchs for HL2 where it gets a crapy score compared to 5600U/5800, I got some doubts

What do you think, should I buy this card? or keep my 165 points in 3DM2003?

do you really want to get that card or are you willing to wait and save more cash,i would say if you want it bad get it now or just save some more so you can get the 5600ultra or 5800.

I don't "want it bad" but, I know that it would take some ears to collect enough to get U or 5800

Hmmmm, my last Ati was a rage128/8mb, since then, I got the TNT2, GF2mx and my current GF4mx... so as you can see, I have a preference for NV, even though they cheated on 3Dmark2003 scores :/

I wouldn't bother DLing Ati drivers, overall ifI have to downgrade them to use ePSXe, unless the costs is significantly lower for the same performances

Ok, well, i'll try to get a 5600 then, at least, it's DX9 :)

Barely.. Seriously I love Nvidia. But you are buying that card for its DX 8.0 features. Not its DX 9.0 ;\

DX8.0??? not even 8.1?
Doh :(
It doesn't have pixel and (HW) vertex shader?

i thought it does? ive been doing pixel shaders with pete's OGL2....

by the way i realized you made an error in your first post killjoy. the FX5600 is 256 mb (that is what i have). the FX5600 ultra is 128mb (and this is the better one).

the normal 5600 has a 128mb and a 256mb version
the one I saw was 128mb IIRC

The FX series are DX9 but they do a really, really bad job of it. Basically, if you want a true DX9 card you might have to just get a Radeon or hope NV get their act together before HL2 or D3 come out.

Which just plain sucks in my opinion. I don't want to get an ATI, but it looks like I might just have to.

256MB DDR memory

Generally, it means that it's the best you can see on a particular card...
for example, I've often saw on every GF2MX400 charac sheet, it's written 64mb, but in fact, there is also a 32mb version of the same card, with the same clock speed... etc...
but I'm not sure for the 5600 though
