Indeed, ME is the worst Windows ever made since 95/NT4... you'll have minor troubles with XP at the beginning, but once you'll have them fixed, you won't regret it

DONT upgrade ME--->XP. i remember when i had ME (yes...a sad story) and i finally got XP. everyone i talked to, including microsoft themself advised against it.

well, i did it. every time i right clicked on something it froze the computer.

ME-->XP. dont do it.

Do it if you wanna keep your datas, it may work fine you know... of course, if you do and then everything is ****ed up, try formating...
but first try an upgrade, it should make you gain time -and overall, your HDD will still have the datas it had b4

well i guess it's worth a shot. my girlfriend has a P3 866 and 128MB ram, her computer shot to **** with ME, a quick upgrade to XP made it all better

well if i were you i would upgrade but if you have to, do ME-->XP. if you are going to do a fresh install, i would recommend 98se.

that's just me...i would also recommend that you get more ram (just another 128 mb is cool)

which is better
me->98 / me->xp
XP>98>ME

kane, i think what he was saying is, is it better to upgrade from ME to 98? or ME to XP?

although i do agree XP>98>getting run over by a truck>ME

Well you can't downgrade to 98 while retaining all your settings from ME.....

wait....you can downgrade from XP to 98 and keep all your settings....?

i thought windows wouldnt let you downgrade, when i put in my windows2000 CD it said that i couldnt, and it greyed out those features

wait....you can downgrade from XP to 98 and keep all your settings....?
You can't, that's what I was saying.

I was refering to that particular situation, as he could still upgrade from ME to XP and keep most of his settings.

WinXP uses more RAM but it uses it well for example
under XP, I can run 3DSmax+Winamp+Triilian+P.mail+Worldcraft+I.Explorer at the same time, and the resources will stay at a good level... when I tried that on 98SE, I quckly got 0% free after a few minutes

But it seems a bit slower than 98 with me (maybe cuz of my slow HDs)

Don't misunderstood, it was just an example that shows how XP deals with hte RAM better than 9x/ME

Windows XP is actually great, it reserves resources for programs you run, instead of holding onto it while running programs. I saw a huge increase in performance after upgrading from Win98SE to WinXP Pro.

CPU: Intel Celeron @ 733 Mhz
Ram: 192 MB 100 Mhz Ram (currently running at 74.4 Mhz)
nVidia GeFOrce 4 MX 420
ESS Allegro onboard sound
16 GB Hdd

little devil, RAM is EXTREMELY cheap these days....especially for older computers. 128 mb is nothing, so maybe you should pick another stick up
