Not wanting this to become a big religious shpeal,,,,but versus from Exodus and Lev were taken from the Old Testament when times were harsh with God smiting and the whole eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth rules....Jesus kinda changed things in the New Testament...a more merciful outlook......

The Soddom and Gomorrah passage wasn;t about men wanting to rape angels...God turned the people to salt because it was a big ole orgy...same sex, beastiality, and adultary,,,,it couldn't be more clear....however this also occured in the Old Testament...perhaps Jesus mellowed out on this as well...although not likely....

anyhoo only Jews stick by the Old Testament (and other religions that base their own interpretations)

Bottom line from DW...if your gay..then be gay..don't look for excuses, loopholes, religious or scientific docs, or other to show it's ok to be gay....just be want you want....an uncertain person looks for proof...a certain person simply accepts

Christian doctrine does not go against homosexuality. Fundamentalist Christian doctrine goes against homosexuality. I've said this before, but maybe this microphone isn't working or something. Government infringement on rights of gay people has nothing to do with the Bible but rather a very narrow and extremely uneducated interpretation of a few select passages that seems to completely disregard any of the surrounding text and historical context. Denial of rights for gay people has no basis in Christianity and is just a reflection of personal bias and/or pressure from fundamentalist constituents - a lesson that McCain learned all too clearly when he wouldn't bend to their will during his run for president.

Personally, I don't think any kind of religious beliefs/interpretations can be applied to this matter. As mentioned previously, the moral content of the bible was accustomed to the era when the idea was concieved. The idea of god. God was fabricated by humans in order to create an artificial sense of absolute observation, justice, and punishment. Without these things, the social structure would come apart, and civilization would not be possible. God is an idea of the past, and, if you ask me, it is time to let it die. oO

...basically, you can't really use a collection of 'fabels' (AKA the bible) to justify, or condemn, anything. It just doesn't make sense.

PS: Sorry if I contradicted myself at all 'cause I'm makin' stuff up. :p

imho there are two ways that you can look at a bible.1)From a religous aspect or 2) from a moral aspect. I for one don't beleive in god but the bibles moral teaching is placed in "common sense/common good". A few of things that MAY be seen as moral comes from supersitious beleifs that for example "pigs" are evil. i don't see why jews take offfense to pigs anymore because it only made them ritually unclean. and their rituals were based around the temple which was destroyed by the romans about 60-70 AD.

Could you please tell your friend to STFU if he has no idea of what hes talking about, it would be greatly apprecriated. After that, could you kick his *** for me. Please :)

And no, the bible shouldnt be used as an argument, being it a book that was written for a society of thousands of years ago. Its scripts cannot be applied to modern times, as your ennumeration shows

thing is....ITS THE "Holy Bible" its like rules that no one cares about but everyone has to obey...

Why should gays have to pretend that their relationships don't exist just because some straight people can't deal with homosexuality? Gays have had to feel uncomfortable all the time growing up. You don't think it makes gays feel uncomfortable every time a family member or friend expects that person to like someone of the opposite sex?

my answer -> lol

hmm i agree with most of the stuff here but Dark Watcher's post perfectly defines my opinion and why i don't like to be too much in this kind of discussion. i simply don't care, if they want to completely **** me and screw me over then go ahead!!! you'll never succeed and i'll just be here living happily and wasting energy in better things like helping social projects that try to give a better life to the THOUSANDS of poor people that live around here.

Ahhh... you don't know how good it felt to read that, seriously, you don't... *glomps big time*

I second that; I've heard too many comments when I'm with people of the same sex that's just stupid... why shouldn't everyone be allowed to be with everyone? Why put big barriers up? I thought different people were all equal more or less everywhere by now (women and men, black and white, religious and atheists etc)... but I still see a couple of minorities - including sexual minorities - to be oppressed. And a lot of the time when you see such oppression come from the US, it's backed by the Bible... I guess that's a reason why it's more accepted here - we're 80% atheists (yes, that number is canon).

I just want everyone to have equal rights, and that everyone can be who they are without anyone talking crap about them and/or hurting them mentally and/or physically. Take pedophilism for one; I know a pedophile, and even if I can't second his "wow that little girl was cute...", or I think the thought is a little repulsive, I still respect him and like him. There's no reason to hurt him or oppress him in any way... he hasn't even done anything with his pedophilism. However, if he would, then he directly hurts another person (just like a rape), and of course, by then it should be seen as VERY wrong...

But I realize I'm kinda straying off-topic here... *shuts up*

... and then my uncle (he's a priest) tells me I lose nothing from having a Faith, yeah right... I don't want to join something that has oppressed so many people over the years, I rather do this (quote from Iced Earth - Vengeance is Mine):

For all the young lives you have slain - for now you shall obtain - Vengeance is mine. For every young one that has died - your psychopathic genocide - Vengeance is mine
Contrary to how most people react when they hear things like this, it doesn't necessarily mean the "main character of the song" kills; I always picture it as being a struggle towards common rights.

So Zettie, I think that is SO wrong... it's funny though... seeing as the US are the country that states "we are the coutry of freedom" over and over, and they even THINK about doing something like this...

80% atheists? I already like this place ;)

RZetlin's news just shows how bad the situation is.
But I have hope that no religious group will be able to promote such an ammendment - the American Atheists are doing everything they can to counter their unconstitutional actions.

Final solution so that neither heterosexual nor homosexual feels uncomfortable is banishing sex in any of its forms. Its totally evil.
And while we're at it we can get rid of guys as well - two girls can already get a girl baby in a laboratory, so guys aren't needed anymore ^_~

On the subject of being Gay in public.
The point is that hetrosexual people do not run around saying "yes I am proud to be hetrosexual", why therefore, if homosexuality is just as normal, do homosexual people feel the need to tell people that they are proud to be homosexual, that implies that they themselves believe it to abnormal.

My last word on the subject as it is going a little of topic.

If you got beat up for it, you would sure like to say something good about it so the pluses and the minuses would truly be 0 in the end. Homosexuals wouldn't have all these Pride carnivals and stuff it they were properly respected for what they are, but alas they're not. So what is the problem? The actual festivals or the fact "normal" people shun them? The second, of course ^_~
