half life: counterstrike (off topic)

hi, i just installed half life: counterstrike (retail) onto my hard drive, but when i downloaded the 1.5 patch, it said something about me not putting it in the right directory. isnt the directory C:\Sierra\Counter-Strike? i keep on directing the installation to that directory, but i get the same error, i even tried dling the mod counterstrike, but it doesnt work. i dled the 1 hundred and something meg and almost all other patch possible, but no good, can someone help me out?

Hmm... make sure u downloaded the patx for the retail version and not the Mod version.

what about the autoupdate using seirra tools? they still have that with their games, right?

Well u need both the CS update and the hl1110 update to play on the web, and both of them have different versions for the Retail and the Mod. If you're sure you're using the right files! Try unninstalling the game and install it again. I had that error in the Mod version but i can't remember what i did to fix it! But now it works fine!

Btw, delete the other thread! U shouldn't post 2 times the same thing! It's agains the board rules!

HOW DO YOU DELETE A THREAD? IM NOT AN ADMIN. SORRY, HEH, MY BAD. again, i tried reinstalling the game a couple of times, andthen installing again, but it just doesnt work, and the autoupdate takes me out of the game and then just does nothing.... mmm, i really need some help

Don't use the auto updates. They never work... try deleting all regkeys in regedit about Half-Life! or Counter-Strike in your case.

To delete a thread just edit the 1st post then check delete :) easy

Unnistall, Delete the keys, Install, Update. If it doesn't work. Try to mail Valve. They normaly awnser really quick! They helped me several times.

lol... u didnt understand me!

Unninstall the game -> Delete the regkeys if any remain after the uninstall -> INSTALL the game :p -> then update. If it doesn't work then do what i told u. Contact Valve

ok, uninstalled, delete reg, install, update: here's the update error message i got, ....you are attempting to install counterstrike where i does not exist... so on so on, i tried directing the installation to the c:/sierra/counterstrike/ , but it still gets the same error message. why?

ok. Uninstall whatever cs you have installed right now (forget about reg keys). Then install it again IN DEFAULT DIRECTORIES, enter your key blah blah blah.

Go to: http://www.counter-strike.net/retail_full.html

Download cs1005.exe from any of the mirrors. Play.

You should have bought Half-Life and downloaded the mod. Never buy retail mods.

Retail mods aren't bad...especially counter-strike..though you could get more if you bought half-life but i didn't have a problem buying half-life...but yea...make swure you didnt install into a diffferent directory...

hmmm... i had downloaded a CS mod update that had the same problem a while back. i had to get the full install instead. maybe its just the exe itself ;)
