And indeed Miyamoto-san is correct, its meant to be creative and different, its not trying to make the Zelda aimed at kids. Wind Waker would look horrid if they used sprites, unless it was 2D Topdown perspective which would make A LOT more people not want to play it.Actually, when I first saw the toon shaded Zelda I was very surprised and excited by it. However, I was startled by the response we got from the press when we showed it off the first time. They all said, "Oh, so is Nintendo now taking Zelda and trying to aim it only at kids?" Really, the whole concept we had behind it was that we thought it was a very creative and new way to show off Link. All of a sudden it had been interpreted as Nintendo's new strategy, and that was a shock for us.
If that's true, then Nintendo surely has losts its marbles. Nintendo is aggressively trying to attract mature gamers, and by making this game appealing only for younger audiences is stupid. And don't even start with they realized the fact after they started development on WW since they specificially started Retro on Metroid Prime for adult content. He chose the cartoony aspect to fit closer to the actions that occur in the game: launching characters in barrels, talking boats/fish, etc. Those things would look way too bizzare in a "realistic" world.Originally posted by Raqia
There are cell shaded games like Wild Arms 3 or the upcoming Dragon Quest 8 that do have generous detail yet has a decent cartoon style. I don't mind creativity but not when it looks this bland. Miyamoto hardly dispels the media's accusations w/ his claim of this being creative new new way of representing Link. You'll note he never directly denies it, and his creativity was probably purely intended to drawing a younger audience to the game, not for the sake of doing something new. I feel it really is more childish than any of the other zeldas and ruins the epic feel that your quest had before in the N64 quests. It's not a bad marketing strategy on the part of Nintendo but I for one lost interest.
