Well yesterday, I went to my local Computer Hardware store, for some purpose,(my weekly survey usually) and their I saw a chaintech GF4 440 MX, and it was just for 100 Dollars, so i got myself a deal, I gave my old crappy GF2MX for 30 dollars and paid extra 70 and got the card, so far I'v checked only one game and that is GTA3, gave full fps at 1024x768. I know this card is nothing more then overclocked GF2, but think of it this way, until I get NV30 (that would be like an year from now), this card would do much good then GF2.

Yea what SuperTrooper said. It doesnt matter what ppl say. It depends if ur satasfied with it. Are u? If you like ur card then its a good deal. If not you shouldnt have done that. :)

The GeForce 4 MX 440 is a pretty good card for the price. It's as fast as a GeForce 2 Ultra and a lot better than the GeForce 2 MX. :)

Why did they even bother to make a Geforce 4 MX series? I rather get a Geforce 2 Ultra then Geforce 4 mx series...

for the mainstream market. Most people buy a complete system and those normally have cheaper cards, like a gf4mx, pre-installed. Also, not everyone can or wants to purchase an expensive gf4 ti.

Also it was for marketing purposes. A GeForce 4 MX sounds a lot better than a GeForce 2 GTS, don't you think? I mean, it's a GeForce 4!!!:D And like Samor said, the MX series is for the value-oriented mainstream market, where gaming performance isn't really that big of an issue.

I'v got around a 65 Percent speed increase, so I have now raised myself to higher resolutions. But one thing is the same which is graphics quality.

Ali

All Nvidia cards have relatively the same graphics quality. It's the one disadvantage to them. The NV30 probably won't be any different. If you want better image quality then you're going to have to look into acquiring an ATI or Matrox card (or possible even a 3dfx card).

U mean that Pixel Shading and nfinite graphics engine won't make much difference.

Ali

yeah, the gf4 mx has lightspeed memory architecture II, meaning u can run with AA nad high res's with low performance hit. Among it's features Pure hw tnl, where NO lighting etc will be done by the cpu. Good thing for slow cpus. :)

Those features will have no effect on the image quality. The only kind of improvement the GF4 has over the GF2 is the FSAA, otherwise they're pretty much the same. I too noticed the image quality stayed the same when I upgraded to my GF2 from my TNT2. I was rather disappointed to say the least. I think I'll look into acquiring an ATI card next. I'm tired of Nvidia cards and their shitty 2D quality.

Funny thing, I Haven't checked FSAA of this card uptill now :D

This is the fault of the manufacturers who use sub-standard output filtering. From Anadtech:
One of the biggest gripes that users in general have had with third party NVIDIA cards is that they often suffer from poor analog output quality. With the GeForce4 the RGB output voltages leading to the analog VGA output are held with much tighter margins, resulting in better output quality than any prior NVIDIA line. We're still working on a testing methodology to quantify this but if you're happy with the output quality on the Radeon 8500 you'll be fine with these GeForce4 cards.
Leadtek is one manufacturer with a good reputation for not skimping on this, I definitely notice an improvement in 2D on my card compared to my old Creative GF2 Pro.

Yes, I am aware of that. Because Nvidia is a chipset manufacturer they have very little control over the quality of their products. It's one of the concerns I have with ATI turning into a chipset maker. Last I heard the Radeon 9700 series will be produced by OEMs, while the Radeon 9700 Pro & 9000 Pro will be built by ATI.

It's not only the image quality but ATI cards have a better 2D feature set. They have hardware MPEG-2 and DVD decoding support, and the Radeon 9700 even has hardware MPEG-2 encoding.

Geforce 4 is a geforce 2 with better memory management, so it is sumwhat faster than Ultra in intense environments. That's about it though... as for what Demigod was talking about, I think he means the the shaders have no effect on the visual output, no the visual effects, and in this respect, he is right. What matters is the path that the direct digital signal gets sent to the montior (vga or DVI) and that much is up to the card manufacturer to take care of. Many times, to keep their cards cheaper than the competition, they skimp on quality, and results in lower image quality. Bottom line, go with a name you recognize for nvidia cards or read review about them.
