@ruantec did Nvidia sort out battery issues with Tegra now? Tegra 3 worked ok in the Nex7 (battery life was so-so) but it was a total disaster in a phone (HTC One X).

I really like Nvidia on the desktop but with the Tegra 3 they haven't quite convinced me in the mobile area.

Nvidia is actually not that good in the mobile area and specially the Tegra 3 which is by current standards now slow and not that energy efficient as it seems on paper. With K1 they seem to have something to show but i doubt is gonna last long. I for one do not follow much ARM based chips on tablets anymore since Intel got the right path and is bringing something usable. Tegra 4 seems OK but again it looks more like a revised version of the Tegra 3 to me.

I went with Samsung now (ditched my HTC OneX for a Galaxy S5) and I'm really happy with it. Of course it's also 2 years newer but the OneX was frustrating to use, uncapable of keeping more than 2 apps open at once, constant speed/slowdown issues and low battery level while still running hot. That was not all Nvidia's fault though, HTC did a poor job there as well.

That sucks although I usually root my phones.

By bad luck I got a Verizon Note 3, it doesn't have the bootloader unlocked so I can't thinker with it like I want to. I get tired of Touchwiz.
By the way I use this launcher with the black theme.
Sorts apps by category.

@Silenus I can imagine getting tired of Touchwiz, I think Sense is a little better looking, but even without rooting you can pretty much personalize Android phones like you want them, IMO. Sometimes a switch of brand can be nice. The Samsung devices are all pretty similar afterall (and very bloated with apps by default), and some of their stuff has a bit of a cheap/plasic feel to them (although I really like Samsung a lot better in general than I like Apple despite that).
As for the M8, I read it's a good phone except for the camera (a traditional weak point of HTC). I take it HTC didn't repeat all of the mistakes that the OneX had in their later models. If it can actually have more than 2 apps open at once without force closing them (which is what the OneX does) it shouldn't be bad.
I personally prefer the S5's screen over the one in the M8, but that's not to say the M8 has a bad display in itself. One thing HTC's always done well is the build quality of their phones, they're very sturdy.

Maybe for you it's the same as me but reverse, I was a long-time HTC user who got dissapointed.
My first HTC was a Diamond, which had a very premium look and feel right down to the packaging (Diamond-shaped case). I still have it but a Windows Mobile device is pretty useless in this day and age.
I had a Desire HD after that, which I absolutely loved as well (not as pretty as the Diamond was, but just an excellent device). If it didn't die (due to my own error) I might very well still use it now.
After that, the OneX was a terrible dissapointment and a frustrating to use device. That's why I switched over to Samsung (Galaxy S5) this year. After keeping up with the OneX for nearly 2 years, it's a delight to use. The M8 can't possibly be as bad as the One X, but that experience was bad enough to ditch HTC... so, I'm happy to have switched.

I have had a lot of galaxy phones, since the first Galaxy S to the latest Note 3.
They pack a lot of features but tired that samsung doesn't change the build quality.

I feel like is not for me anymore.

We have reached a point in my opinion where phones are fast enough so build quality and design should be a bigger factor at the moment of purchase.

And what's with OEMs like samsung having chrome edges on phones, anything can scratch that. I have a relative new Note 3, some months old, haven't dropped it but just by putting it standing up on my car the edges have peeled to black. It looks like a year old phone. I don't want a case on such a big phone. I have seen the same thing on other samsung phones.

I'll sell my Note 3 and get something new, still leaning towards the M8.

get nexus7 2013 version as 2012's screen has very less saturation.
