well i asked something similar a year or 2 back, and i thought its about time to bring it up again with all the changes that have happened in that time.
Why would anyone use no$gba any more?
Last time, people were pretty clear that it was because no$gba was faster.
Well with later desmume 0.9.9 revisions now having a dynamic recompilier almost doubling emulation speed while keeping accuracy and compatibility...
So lets review
no$gba
-Costs money and closed source and not worked on after a few updates? [strike](reminds me of zodtdd)[/strike]
-REQUIRES a 3rd party tool to really do anything (no$zoomer)
[strike]-requires you to manually configure saves for like all games[/strike]
[strike]-games require patching to work...[/strike]
-lots of problems (such as audio)
desmume
-ALOT faster then it used to be (since adding dynamic recompilier in later revisions)
***now since the release of 0.9.9 final, its speed rivals or surpases no$gba***
-ALOT more compatible and accurate
-ALOT more features/tools
-constantly being worked on
-easier to use
-completely free and open source
im completely lost on why anyone with a 1/2 functional brain would use no$gba over desmume at this point :3
and seriously closed source emulators in this day and age? lul wut? (even pj64 is open source now)
EDIT:
if you want pre-compiled emus, you can use mine (i emptied all the folders and the .ini file, so its basically folders and the emulator itself)
desmume 0.9.9 r4567 x86 (links removed since 0.9.9 is an official final release now)
desmume 0.9.9 r4567 x64 (links removed since 0.9.9 is an official final release now)
try them out for yourself.
EDIT2: http://forums.ngemu.com/showthread.php?t=156287 is now a place to discuss the release of desmume 0.9.9 final with newer benchmarks of it.
also my opinion of no$gba has changed since using 2.6a with no$zoomer and doing more thorough testing of it (at the time of making it i had only use 2.6 awhile back w/o no$zoomer).
Its actually not a horrible emulator, its definitely capable of playing games pretty well. But it does suffer from a few problem, especially that of relating to audio.
so please disregard the other posts i made in here in the first few pages.
Id also like to apologize to martin, but i still think if he charges for his emulators, he should atleast update them
BUT since the release of 0.9.9 final desmume is really like neck in neck with no$gba for speed. Since no$gba's speed is all it had going for it and desmume has alot more to offer then no$gba in every other aspect other then speed, no$gba imo is now like a depreciated ds emulator.
