Looks a little too much hollywood to little anime to me.
While i agree that the whole news anchor thing is a bit cliche but its a trailer, still it looks very impressive especially for a fan made movie. And the trailer doesn't show quite enough to say for sure its to much hollywood yet, imho the idea behind the trailer is to show that it can take on a big budged production. Still as i said from the trailer itself it looked good and the fact alone that i get to see a more realistic take on the VF feels great XD.

I was talking more about all the drama and how it seems to be set up like an Alien Invasion Michael Bay Transformers style. I mean I know the Macross Universe obviously has aliens but the VFs aint them so the entire focus of the movie seems wrong. I do admit the CG for the VFs is highly impressive though, especially for being fan made.

This reminds me though that I really need to get around to watching the original Macross/Robotech series.

I think you need to get your Macross/Robotech accurate, it focuses more on the aliens then the VF's, the first trailer doesn't even feature VF's and the second them mostly has them from: 0:15 to 0:22 if you count the plane form as well. The rest are the alien units, which its accurate as in the original Macross they do make the first move of attacking earth, but there's a bit of a twist as to why, i dunno if that's covered by the movie or not, i can't tell by this trailer, also the movie focuses on Robotech more then actually macross which is a bit different from what i understand.

Ah, I got them confused cuz they followed a similar design to the VFs in walker mode.

I don't remember what the actual/original aliens look like.

And yeah I know the aliens attack first...but to at first glance it had just looked like a bunch of VFs (although I hadn't enlarged the player, I could see it more clearly now)

Nah, I never watched Macross 7, I'd started reading the manga but I never got very far. Anyways in Frontier their design was completely different to anything in those trailers. More radical colours and more animal looking.
