Already using 1.7 incase that was meant for me and not as a general statement.

Now if only I could stop using an Estus Flask whenever I want to attack and blocking whenever I want to roll.....this is going to take some major getting used to...and wanting to jump when there's no such function regardless of button really isn't helping either.

To jump, hold run, when your character is running, quickly release and press run again.

Well yeah but that's a bit elaborate for something to quickly try in a fight, not that it would probably help anyways, but I just constantly feel that with all the attacks I'm supposed to dodge that I need to quickly jump (like one does with the press A to jump jumps in other games) to dodge some as well rather than just roll and then run everywhere. And then further impulse to just jump at the press of a button rather than a sequence is provided by the size of the enemies since it feels like I should be hitting further up the body.

For instance when you encounter the Assylum Demon if you didn't kill him with the busted sword where you pop out on that little ledge. Now I know I'm supposed to do a plunging attack but he's right in the middle of the courtyard and thus out of range and there's not enough room to do the running leap thing and just dropping down feels stupid, now in another game I'd do the jump with A thing at least getting a bit closer where the AI is probably programmed to start advancing towards me threateningly putting him in range. And then whilst I'm trying to figure all this out thinking he hasn't seen me since ordinarily enemies are vertically sight challenged to my surprise he instead jumps and obliterates the ledge I'm on and me without any warning.

So basically what's hurting me in this game is any other RPG or Action or Hack and Slash or Platform game I've ever played since the controls are almost directly opposite and some plain aren't there and the (big, my size or just a bit bigger enemies are manageable) AI isn't prepared to give me a learning curve.

I also wish the the camera was more zoomed out...just smacking legs and tails about isn't much fun (although I have only fought one big guy so far so hopefully that will change a bit despite me not seeing how it will) and the very reason why games incorporated QTEs and/or finishing moves in the first place.

Your not really going to need to jump while in combat, unless you want to vault down some stairs for a plunge attack. Rolling is the definitive method for avoiding attacks, and if you want to close the gap quickly and attack, use forward + R2 to jump and strike. It might feel weird now, but in time it will make a whole lot of sense.

The biggest thing with DS is to forget about other games and how they operate. After I got comfortable with how Dark and Demons Souls control, other games seem shallow in comparison.

I'm pretty happy how my low level character turned out, with my giant wood and no shield I breezed through Oolacile and made mince meat out of Artorias. Having to rely on gear and watching enemy patterns has been a lot more fun than over leveling my character, knowing when to dodge and strike is far more effective than just tanking things. The good thing too with this approach, and without using attunement slots is every time I strike I need to think about an escape plan, fighting the stone golems can be tough if your relying on gear to save you, but by striking hard once, getting out of there and coming back in between their swings I can take them down quite easy. It also helps having a +14 great club which can one shot them with the right moment.

Artorias was the same, when I first fought him I was frustrated as I was relying on tanking, with this character (SL15) dodging and striking once made the fight go rather quickly, I had to use a few estus flasks for when I got too sloppy, but this method was very effective, and a heck of a lot of fun.

Now I'm making a new strengthbro without the SL limits I put on myself as I want to dual swing Dragons Teeth like a fool, and it feels weird leveling so much.

Bump. Been playing on PS3 mostly lately but can't always do it (one TV in the house :/) so I started a heavy build on PC as well (as opposed to my PS3 dex build). Claymore + hopefully Balder Shield when I'm finally able to farm it (they don't want to drop it for some reason :/).

It's amazing how people say that there's a little story in this game and how much of it there actually is, only hidden and there for the player. The lore is so vast, and I pity those who say otherwise.

He's scared of XLive Banishment so that would be a No then.

Live doesn't ban anyone from using the fix.

Are you enabling Anisotropic Filtering? Looks like it might not be enabled or forced. When I updated the fix I used to have it done through the .ini, and forgot to enable it and it looked pretty similar. Then I ran it through the nvidia control panel and it looked a lot sharper.

God ****ing damn it I love this game, haven't played it in a while but now I'm gonna have to jump back in. Sunbro's for life. Last thing I did was kill Manus, I think on my first attempt, without a shield and using the silver pendant. After practicing against him a lot the first time around, his attacks were quite easy to telegraph, and with only flask and pendant on my belt, it was really easy to stay on top of him and whittle him down. With my giant ****off branch he went down pretty quickly. Really love that giant stump, its almost criminal it does that amount of damage for only 12 weight. Makes the dragon tooth look like a chump.

How's this now?

The more I play as a heavy knight the more I realise how this playstyle doesn't suit me... So sloooooow to move...

Yesterday I finally killed Crossbred Priscilla (on my PS3 playthrough). Damn, that was an annoying fight for me. Couldn't even cut her tail off as she died before turning visible.

Yeah that looks pretty good. What internal resolution have you set it to? My settings are 1.5x 2560x1440 and it looks insane on screen.

If I go over 25% weight these days I really get frustrated, moving slowly and taking forever to roll gets tiring quickly. Unless I roleplay as Tarkus, then I don't give a crap and just brute force my way through.

I always feel guilty killing Priscilla, all she wanted was to be allowed to live. Being chased off into that painting was really cruel.

The internal resolution is about the same as my screen, 1680x1050 with DoF resolution at 1920x1080, and I was finally able to run the game with SSAO on without it crashing at the start :D

I didn't have anything against Priscilla, just needed to kill her for a trophy :p Now I have a lot of problems against Ornstein and Smough, even when I summon Solaire who dies quite fast (and damn those invading *****es when I'm trying to prepare for a boss fight!). My character is SL 59 at this point btw. Though I finally got Lautrec's ass for killing the Firelink firekeeper :D

It might be worthwhile upping the internal resolution closer to 1920 values and dropping the DOF to a little below 1680 values if your looking to get the far distance blurred like on PS3, plus it will make the game look exceptionally crisp on screen and shouldn't hurt the frame rate. A lot of users over on NeoGAF running 1920 monitors bump their internal Res to 2560 and it looks sensational.

Might be worth a shot.
