Hello I am new to emulation and have been having a few hickups. I searched the forums and havn't found anyone with the exact problem I seem to be having. I am using epsxe1.7 and had relatively few problems getting the emulator to work. I am playing Final fantasy 7 and 8 as well as Suikoden 2. I saved my games on the save state and the memory cards. I woke up and clicked load state, and none of the files were there. I have not been able to successfully load any of the games I have saved. Please help!

if you go to file > run bios in epsxe, do you see your saves on the memory card?
i would check to see if files are inside the memcards and sstates folders. also would confirm to see in the epsxe config, if memcards folder is directed to the proper folder that have your memory card files.

My antivirus isn't deleting anything that I can see. I am a little confused about the difference between the save state and saving with a memory card. When I use the save state should it create a file in the sstates folder? And the same with using a memory card, but to the memcards folder?

Thanks guys I appreciate the help and am checking this thread every hour or so.

correct and correct.

the memory card is the 'normal' official way to save your games, as done in normal/ non-emulated, psx hardware. you can only save/load your data at certain parts of the game where it was designed that you could do so. (such as a save crystal in FF7 or on the worldmap)

save states are a 'feature' of emulators like epsxe. you can save where ever you like at any time you like. you cannot do this in a real psx, or else games would be very easy because like I said save states are a 'feature' of emulators.

can you run a hijackthis scan, and paste the log here?

Problem solved!!! For some reason even though the save states and memory card files were reaching their destination, the emulator would not find them. It turns out when I switched profiles ( a random idea ) it was able to find the files. Thank you very much for your help Gamer89420! You are a gentleman and a scholar!

In case anyone experiences a problem simalar to the on I had here. After you close expse, you may get a notice that says some of the files were extracted and modified and will ask if you want to save the new files. Say yes, or all of the saves from that session will be lost. I played SUikoden 2 for about 6 hours straight, went to sleep and last all of my data. WOO HOO!

Hold on just a second. Why are you using epsxe from inside a rar/zip file? Well at least that's what it sounds like.

If this is in fact the case, then you should extract the entire epsxe folder out of the zip/rar, and leave it that way. Then you wouldn't have to worry about your gameplay data being lost, should you ever happen to not click 'yes', or accidentally close it out somehow.

Also, if you lose power, or your computer crashes, then you will lose your gameplay progress since you will have no chance to 'say yes' after you finish playing.

I have the same problem, so I ran bios and got the screen with memory cards and CDROM, but am unable to navigate in that window. I do have a save in the sstates folder, but when the game starts, there are no saved states when F3 is pushed?

duh I used the controller. Now these memory cards are from an older lap top that doesn't work but were backed up. I copied them from the old files and I see several of the old saved spots. There is a copy option, but where does it copy end up? The memory cards in the game as previously posted are all greyed out.

My problem is quite similar, except that I'm trying to get ePSXe to work with a save game from my PSX memory card. The save files are in Dex Drive (.gme format I think?) format, which to all I understand is supposed to be a supported format. Thus far, I've been copying the save files into the memcards folder. Is that right? Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

change the file extension from .gme to .mcr and it should work.

I just tried that, and it's still a no go. I could tell right off the bat because I've completed the game, and the "scrapbook" wasn't appearing on the main menu. I also know for sure that the saves (includes time trial ghosts) are not corrupted because I recently used them on the PS2 when a buddy of mine and I played CTR together. Is it simply a matter of right clicking on the file, and changing the file extension, or did I skip a step?

Ummm... in epsxe, you did direct the memory card path to the new save, right?

also, in order to change a file extension, you have to enable to show file types for known files. in any windows window you need to go to tools > folder options > click View > 'hide extensions for known file types' <-- make sure is unchecked.

it should work because I just tested it myself.

Yeah, I made sure to point ePSXe to the files in the memory card config, and also checked that the folder option you're referring to in Windows is checked (it is). That's why this is so bizarre. Because from everything I can tell, I'm theoretically doing everything ePSXe should need, and it still doesn't see my memory card saves. At this point, my best guess is that since my ghost saves are off of an old InterAct mega memory card, and were spread out across different pages, maybe I should check that I included a copy of the savegame information along with my time trial ghosts on each page? Bad part is, my new computer doesn't have a com port, so I can't connect my Dex Drive anymore (even if this new computer had a com port, it still wouldn't matter--Win 7 won't accept unsigned drivers). This of course means I have no idea how I could transfer the memory card saves onto my computer (before, I'd simply archived the old Dex Drive file archives on CD). Could it be that I need to unpack my Dex Drive file archives into the individual save files? If so, is there a tool I can use for that? I tried PSX mem tool, and it doesn't seem to work on Win 7 even in compatibility mode--it just coughs up an error when I try to start it. I'm starting to think I may just have to re-play the game, and unlock the characters and tracks the old fashioned way.

I said UNCHECKED, not checked! Make sure 'hide extensions for known file types' is UNCHECKED! It should be a blank box next to it!

It should NOT have a check mark by it!

This is very important because otherwise, you didn't really change the file extension at all, but simply just re-named the file!

Thanks for all your tips gamer, but I finally worked out the problem. In fact, the problem was so ridiculously simple that I won't elaborate on what it was because I'm quite frankly pretty embarassed I didn't figure it out on my own sooner. We'll just suffice to say that I worked it out, and everything is working great now. But I really do appreciate all your tips and help. Thanks a million!
