The reason why I hate to see Sony do this is not because I don't like them copying Nintendo. It's because they're simply jumping on the bandwagon yet again instead of coming up with their own ideas.

If I want the Wii U, I'll buy the Wii U. Sony and MS should find their own ideas to get me, not go "HEY, ME TOO!" whenever someone does something cool.

Sony not sure what Nintendo's doing with Wii U, flattered by PS3 footage being used

A portion of a GamesIndustry interview with Sony's Andrew House...

Q: What was your reaction to Nintendo's console announcement at E3 and are you worried that it's going to encroach on PlayStation 3 growth?

Andrew House: Honestly, the way these conferences work, I've had zero exposure to it.

Q: But you know it's happened, right?

Andrew House: Yes, of course. I'm aware of the announcement but in terms of details I've not seen a great deal. It's intreaging, but I'm interested to hear your reaction as a journalist because I've heard varying opinions.

Q: I was confused by it. But it's too early to judge. I'd like to hear more solid technical details, game details.

Andrew House: Is it an extension of the Wii? Is it definalty a next generation step for them? Or is it like a DSiXL more?

Q: They're positioning it as new console.

Andrew House: Did they say what the additional controller strategy is going to be?

Q: It uses the Wiimote and other peripherals.

Andrew House: But that means then that the lowest common denominator is going to be a Wii interaction for the vast majority of consumers. What if you've got a family of six?

Q: You're questioning me now. [laughs] I can't comment.

Andrew House: I always wanted to do this to a journalist.

Q: But what I'm trying to get around to is, Nintendo has admitted that the third-party content they showed was footage from PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. How do you feel about Nintendo using your content to sell their product?

Andrew House: The only thing I've got to say is mimicry is the is the highest form of flattery.
Mimicry! He said "mimicry".

So Sony and Microsoft adding crappy motion controls to their consoles wasn't mimicking the Wii? and adding touch screen to the PSP/2? and a PSP/Phone?

Frankly there isn't much "real" innovation in the gaming industry and the closest thing that will pass as it in the future is copying computer DRM to consoles & portables, although that kind of innovation I can deal without.

and adding touch screen to the PSP/2? and a PSP/Phone?
Actually the phone has the touch screen cuz that what all phones have these days and it doesn't have proper keys, just gaming ones so without the touch capability you couldn't use the phone. If a game is PLAY optimized it will in fact NOT use the touch screen like all the other phones and rather use it's party piece gaming pad.

This wasn't anything Nintendo like but rather Sony's attempt at copying the NGage.

I will give you the Vita though.

There was something "valid" about the NGage?

I thought the only good thing about it would be to find one "cheap" in a "junk store" and have it as a discussion piece.

Sony obviously thought so and created a device just as irrelevant as the NGage was...well actually more so since the NGage at least had some exclusives the PLAY however has nothing but a few re-purposed PS1 titles (which other Android devices can emulate) and a couple of PLAY optimized titles also available to other Android phones.

I'm pretty sure the ps3 controller was the favorite of current gen consoles though. The sensitivity isn't used in many games but in the games it is used in it works almost flawlessly. Something I can't say about wii games.
