Hey everybody! This forum has been such a great resource for me since I started using the emulator. I have been playing ff7 on my pc, and it plays amazing. I've been trying to play it on my Macbook (using bootcamp, Windows XP sp2). It runs amazing until I get to battle. The fight begins, but there isn't any battle swirl, and it slows to a crawl. Sometimes the battles don't even begin. Other than this issue it runs at 59.8 fps. These are my settings, and my system specs. (Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated)

^ max these out.

Hello everyone, I know this post is really old but this is the closest thing I have ever been able to find that might allow me to play FF7 on my macbook (regular.) So I was hoping I could bring this back just long enough to post my specs and get a definitive yay or nay on whether this will ever work!

That being said I don't know anything about technology, so I've tried my best to assemble all the necessary information and I do hope I don't waste your time by not having it all up front.

Computer:
White macbook (non-pro)
Graphics card: Intel 965 Express
Intel Core 2 Duo
2.4 GH
1.96 GB of Ram (This is what it says when I right click in My Computer and look at properties)
Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3 (running via Bootcamp)

I'm using:
ePSXe
BIOS: scph1001
Video: P.E.Op.S. OpenGL Driver 1.78
Sound: Eternal SPU Plugin 1.41
Cdrom: ePSXe CDR WNT/W2K core 1.5.2

I've been using all the same settings as the first poster, and I've messed around with several combinations of numbers for the Offscreen drawing, Framebuffer texture, and Framebuffer access, all to no avail. It either slows and lags in the beginning, as the camera starts panning over the tower, or it plays well until the train has pulled up and everything lgs where the "battle swirl" is supposed to be.

I've read elsewhere that the graphics card on this computer just isn't good enough to run this game, but if I'm not mistaken (and I very well may be, I know nothing!), my GH and Graphics card are slightly better than the person who began this topic, and he says he's playing it fine now, so I should be able to as well...? Tentatively hopeful.

Also, in the case that either of these people (the original poster and Squall) still post here, I was confused about the comment to "max out" the 3 things I mentioned above, because for one of them 0 says it's the fastest, so I didn't know if you meant put it to 0 or put it to the biggest number possible, I've tried both ends of the spectrum for all 3 and nothing doing.

Finally, I'm sorry if this is all terribly misinformed or if this doesn't belong here, I've been dying to get my FF7 on and am horribly un-tech-savvy. If no one can answer these questions but could perhaps point me in a better direction as to where to post them that would be much appreciated!

Thank you so much for taking the time to look this over.

use the D3D7 plugin, the GMA3000 is simply not good at opengl.

Hi there and thank you for the fast reply! I've switched to the D3D plugin (1.77), which according to "pete's messageboard forum" is the D3D7, hope that's right?

I set the settings to be as close to those in the first post of this thread as I could, though there are a few new ones (should the color be 16 or 32 bit?)

I'm still confused as to what the settings should be for the off-screen drawing, advanced blending, framebuffer textures and framebuffer access, when I booted it up with everything set to max and the rest of the settings as described in the first post the hand that picks new game or continue wasn't there, and the swirl was messed up, though it barely slowed down at all.

So I guess to summarize:
1 Should the color be 16 or 32 bit?
2 Does window size matter?
3 What numbers should be used for the drawing, blending, textures and access settings?
4 Are there any other things that should be changed from what the original poster outlined?

Thank you very much for your help and especially your patience, good to know this is possible!

Depending on how intel does their drivers, you may find 16bpp to be slower than 32bpp as most 16bpp display formats are internally converted to 32bpp anyway.

It all runs perfectly except for a small slowing down of music in battle and still no swirl. You think this is as good as it gets?

Thank you so much for all your help, if those last little details are just unworkable I'll probably play it anyway and survive, also there is no "full vram" option, perhaps I don't have the latest D3D plugin?

Thanks once again.

the swirl only works on FF7 if you bump offscreen drawing to max, sorry i forgot about that. its the only difference between FF7 and FF8 on the d3d plugins.

You sir are a gentlemen and a scholar! The swirl is crappy, but it's there, and the slow-down of sound is minimal and only at the item collection screen after battle. Thank you very much for all your help!

Last one, I definitely don't have the latest version of ePSXe, would it benefit me to download that?

Thank you once again.

not really if you stick to FF7.

Hi there,

I'm the trying the hole day to set up the plugin config just to play FF7 on the ePSXe.
After a lotta work i'm managed to set the configs just fine.
The only problem still the damn battle swirl.

I've made all that people told to do. But the problem still on.

The pete's Open GL doesn't work so fine on my note (Dell Inspiron - Intel graphics acc. - windowns 7 - intel cor i3)

My plugin configs are:
Textures:
Best Colors, Filtering: 1, Hi-res: 0
Use FPS limit: marked, auto-detect
Compatibility:
4, 2, 1, 0 (alpha and mask, marked)

And i've marked de special games fixes for the ff7 but still doesn't worked.

Thanks for the help!
