Can some one put this in a diffrent forum if it's in thw wrong spot becuase im talking about hardware and software

I'm having a bad time my laptop is realy slow i'v cleaned it and did a low level format is there anysoftware to get the top speed out of my laptop.

Problem that i think could be caulsing it.

Bios settings are bad.
Crap Hard Drives.

What ells could i do to fix it. Software or anything ells.

Can you give us an idea of what exactly is running slow? examples of how long something is taking which should be quick?

Give us a hijack this log or a screenshot of "process explorer" by sysinternals. Both would be best.

Its probably the fact you've partitioned a hdd, and on one of those partitions is the pagefile.

This doesn't boost performance, it slows it.

Dude here is what you really need to do

Step 1: Defragment your HDD with a good disk defragmenting software like Diskeeper.

Step 2: Clear your temp folder
this is how you do it>go to run command>type the underlined words- temp>hit enter>in this temp folder delete all the deletable files.

Step 3: Clear your internet temp
instructions>go to run command through task manager>type the underlined words- %temp% >hit enter>in this newly opened folder delete all the deletable files.

Step 4: Make sure you have 20% or more free space in your C drive[C:\]
and 10% free space in all other drives

Step 5: Make sure you have minimal processes running in the background and task tray.

when you do this your system will be as good as new.

msconfig in run, then turn off the crap in startup tab.

Just google anything you're unsure of in MSConfig... You should be fine.

no, DMA problems can occur in all versions of windows, from 9x - Vista. The driver will automatically switch back to pio if read errors occur. whether its an optical drive or hdd. which is why its recommended to replace the sata/ide cable in the chance that such read errors occur.

Ok now instructions to set the DMA right.
first check whether your drive is running in ultra DMA mode
to check this you need to open up device manager and click on IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
Next double click on each controller listed and go to the advanced settings tab, here you will have to look for ultra dma mode X [X=2~6]
If it shows not applicable then close the current window and open up the next controller window and check for the same.
If you see PIO only under current transfer mode then close that window and right click on that controller and press uninstall.
After that you need to restart your comp and then it will be fixed.

DMA should actually enable straight away without a restart, under windows XP and Vista.

However if it doesn't, then you need to Reinstall the busmaster driver., this issue actually occured to me yesterday for some unknown reason, it wasn't till later i realised it was the drive running in PIO, it made everything take longer, bootup, login, even the windows startup sound was jittery.

However this did give me an idea as to why my mouse was jittery when i enabled APIC on my nforce mainboard.....
