Hey, my problem is that I can't save onto the memcard that comes with epsxe when I play Xenogears. Every time i try it gives me a "Save failed. Try again." error. I didn't mind this at first but when i got to the dream sequence using save states, I can't get past it. Luckily I have a save state where I can use a save point...
But if i have to play the entire game ALL OVER AGAIN, I will snap!!

This is a wellknown problem. Me and various other people ahve encountered it. I personally don't know why it happens. But If U start a game you should always keep memcard saves anyway. I don't know why people don't do it. I played it with a memcard save in epsxe and I got past fine since i kept updating the save. It just won't let you start a new save 30 hours into the game for some weird reason. Son't ask me why.

This won't affect teh dreamsequence though since savestates don't intervene with teh game.

You are in trouble now though since you won't be able to convert a file to a memcad format. I've tried doing so but I can't save over an old save at that point either since the time difference is just too big for the memcard to handle or something along those lines. Still I do not know why you can't save. You'll have to ask someone else.

I have also never had problems with saving on a regular memory card, so I'm baffled by the string of problems others seem to have had lately. In addition to F4, the only possible solution I can offer is that I think I started playing the game in ePSXe 1.4.0 and saved there. Try saving in 1.4.0 instead of 1.5.0.

See I'd just LOVEEEEEEEEEEEE to be able to use the memcard, but like i said before for some REALLY ****ed up reason i CAN"T SAVE AT ALL! EVERY time i try it gives me a "Save failed" error. THAT is why i used save states!!! So don't tell me to use memcards if I CAN"T USE THEM!!

I also tried starting a new game and saving at the first point that I could and it STILL gave me the error.

Did you start a memcard save at the beginning of the game? If so than that is why you never had problems. I myself never had problems, but it seems to be impossible to start a memcard save when you are halfway through the game. I don't know why.

What I'd really like is to someone to tell me WHY I cannot save in Xenogears with epsxe 1.5!!! When I mean by "save" i mean using the memcard!! Like i've said before it just gives me a "save failed. Try again" error. I tried starting a new game and saving at the first save point and I still got the same error.
Why is that?!?!?

!

Ok i got the saving to work for epsxe 1.4 but it still doesn't work for 1.5.
And I obviously can't use 1.5 save states to 1.4 to save on memcard with 1.4. So i'm basically screwed eh?
Edit!!
Oh my god!! Somehow i loaded the 1.5 save state in 1.4 epsxe. Ok at first i couldn't SEE anything but it still let me access the menu (I was on the Xenogears menu right before the Kislev scene where it asks if you want to save)
So i was able to press O (to get out of the menu) and the game proceeded to run as normal!! Even though i was using a 1.5 save state!! :D Hopefully it'll work past the dream part too

I hate to tell you this but this is a bug with Xenogears. If it fails to access a memcard at any point it won't be able to access it from then on. The first time I rented Xenogears a few years ago I tried playing several hours without saving... bought a new memcard, didn't do anything. I've encountered this bug other times.. if your memcard fails then there's nothing you can do but reset. In the real thing, of course. If I were you I'd keep using the save states... be sure to make backups occasionally.

As for the dream sequence, yeah. Use VGS. Every PSEmuPro plugin compatable emulator that can make it that far will experience the bug.

Ok nope and I thought 1.5 save states don't WORK with 1.4 and only works the other way around. The dream state STILL freezes on 1.4 so now i'm starting all over with only memcard saves.

See Ryos you keep preaching on how you should save to the memcard and savestates. Well for me the MEMCARDS never worked so i was only able to use save states. Then i found out if i use a save state just ONCE i can no longer use the memcard.

Yeah well, what if you don't have a memcard save? I had one, and I imported it into 1.4, and when I exported it back to 1.5 it had formatted itself (?) for some reason. Therefore, I lost my memcard, the entire thing.

And the savestate I had saved after the sequence didn't work, 'cause I didn't know about the -ssv0 parameter. So, I deleted that.

I managed to get a savestate from LuciferSam, but that's not gonna help me get past the dreamsequence again.

Anyone have a memcard save...............? I'm getting tired of this stupid game and it's damn bugs.

It's not the game that has bugs, it's the program. Xenogears is a great game. Don't get me wrong though, EpsxE is a VERY good emulator and in my opinion the best. It seems like 1.5 can't run it correctly though :(

I made it all the way to the dream part with save states only because I couldnt save to the memcard at the beginning. However after deleting all my save states, I restarted and was able to save to the memcard at the first save point. I think I was having troubles getting thru some parts so had used a save state at the beginning to avoid repeating them and that was my downfall.

I don't know why memory cards don't work for some people  but I'm using an NTSC version and I can save to memory card.

here are all my settings I'm using with the game.

Fine, don't believe me. But I've played Xenogears a lot on a _real_ PSX and the game is bugged. If it fails, for whatever reason, to access a mem card, it'll never work again. Granted, good mem cards should never fail (and my mem cards weren't that good) but it happens. Even on an emulator, sometimes. There's nothing you can do about it, and unless ePSXe gets some crazy hack added to it it CAN NOT BE FIXED. Okay?
