Who has the Lunar license these days?
Ubisoft i think. But the last game for the DS was really bad. I dont think they will make more Lunar Games. I remember way back when they anounced Lunar 3 for the ps2 and never made it. And that Grandia and Lunar game for the Xbox that disappeared too. I think the series is pretty much dead. A shame. SSS was one of my fav ps1 games =O

Should this port/remake prove successful, Square-Enix might hopefully think about making that seemingly-cancelled Chrono Break game (Chrono Break - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

Chrono fans, it looks like there is a possibility for a good future ahead. :) We can only hope that they S-E doesn't screw this up like, oh I dunno, Final Fantasy X-2 :p

Chrono Break wont be possible as it was made when they were squaresoft and that most of the development team behind that game have left since that was the work of the people doing xenogears, at least the developers are making a decent ds rpg that has a very similar look, graphic style that is, to xenogears.

But there is no requirement of making a new game which forces the original developing team to return. Unless Square-Enix has a set of by-laws which I don't know about oO Besides, Chrono Break - if it ever comes to creation - could turn out to be a side-story or spin-off; you know what S-E is like (my examples being the Final Fantasy Legend and Chronicles series).

squareenix may need the origional developers to continue the project or a group of developers that can continue others' work. still the biggest issue right now with chrono break is that it cant continue development using existing code or the work that has been made already since it is no where complete and would require starting from scratch.

it is hard to continue a cancelled project when the origional staff is gone because they need to maintain the origional art, story and gameplay which may not sit to well with the new staff, also i would hate it if it if chrono break was released (even if they started from scratch) and doesnt give credit to the origional developers

I'd rather have new blood work on a new Chrono project anyways, a lot of new bright ideas come with new blood.
Good point. Hell, imagine all Resident Evil's having that awkward old gameplay or all Final Fantasy's using the original battle system. Sure, their development teams may not have entirely changed, but they have surely gotten new members.

The original team may also hold the rights to the game itself, so S-E can't even touch it.
I highly doubt that. The Xenogears people couldn't even get the full rights for Xenosaga, and Square doesn't even seem to have any interest in using the license.

Yeah. Xenosaga is that series.

Xenosaga Ep1

Xenosaga Ep2

Xenosaga Ep3

???

Xenogears
Officially, no. The company behind Xenosaga couldn't get the rights from Square. I don't think the Xenosaga series is worthy of being considered in the same league as Xenogears, anyway. I wish Square would make some truer prequels to the game, but I doubt that's going to happen at this point.

Then you get crazy people like me who buy all the weird and obscure RPGs I can get my hands on and never finish any (except Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana) although I keep wanting to go back to my Link to the Past on my GBA or in ZSNES. I have the Super NES cartridge as well...

;)
