Teaser site: Countdown SiteIGN said:The Clock Ticks on Chrono Trigger DS
New website teases Chrono's confirmation.
It started out as a rumor on a message board, mentioning a Japanese magazine's apparent reports on "Chrono Trigger for DS," and it has since grown into a Square fan's wet dream.
Chrono Trigger, hands-down one of the best classic RPGs of its time, looks to be getting a re-make – or at least a port – onto DS, which is already responsible for the return of Final Fantasy in 3D, the rebirth of Front Mission and Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced, as well as the next installment of Dragon Quest. No official announcement has come from Square Enix at this time, but a mysterious website has shown up, which simply says "Nintendo DS," and shows a ticking clock. The header for the site even ends in "ctds," so it's pretty obvious exactly what Square Enix has in the cooker.
Scans have been leaked across the net, one of which shows off what looks to be 2D gameplay of the traditional Chrono Trigger in action, so the current debate is whether or not this new CTDS will be a re-make of the original, or a true sequel to the original on Super NES, now complete with touch integration and dual screen support.
We've put out a notice to Square Enix regarding an official statement, and should know more tomorrow. Until then, check out the game's official website, which is currently nothing more than a ticking clock. A ticking clock that's sure to start the old hype train up considerably with E3 looming in the distance, that is.
Tales of Hearts DS:GoNintendo said:Sure…why not another big announcement tonight. As if CT for DS wasn’t enough, now we have another Tales game for the DS!
Definitely. I liked how they tied in Chrono Cross with Trigger. Not heavily and not too minimally, but just right. It'd be interesting to have a new Chrono game come to the PS3 (oh fine, and for the 360 and Wii tooThat's a good point. Renewed interest in the game may drive the creation of sequels.
Ubisoft i think. But the last game for the DS was really bad. I dont think they will make more Lunar Games. I remember way back when they anounced Lunar 3 for the ps2 and never made it. And that Grandia and Lunar game for the Xbox that disappeared too. I think the series is pretty much dead. A shame. SSS was one of my fav ps1 games =OWho has the Lunar license these days?
Chrono Break wont be possible as it was made when they were squaresoft and that most of the development team behind that game have left since that was the work of the people doing xenogears, at least the developers are making a decent ds rpg that has a very similar look, graphic style that is, to xenogears.Should this port/remake prove successful, Square-Enix might hopefully think about making that seemingly-cancelled Chrono Break game (Chrono Break - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).
But there is no requirement of making a new game which forces the original developing team to return. Unless Square-Enix has a set of by-laws which I don't know about oO Besides, Chrono Break - if it ever comes to creation - could turn out to be a side-story or spin-off; you know what S-E is like (my examples being the Final Fantasy Legend and Chronicles series).Chrono Break wont be possible as it was made when they were squaresoft and that most of the development team behind that game have left since that was the work of the people doing xenogears, at least the developers are making a decent ds rpg that has a very similar look, graphic style that is, to xenogears.
Good point. Hell, imagine all Resident Evil's having that awkward old gameplay or all Final Fantasy's using the original battle system. Sure, their development teams may not have entirely changed, but they have surely gotten new members.I'd rather have new blood work on a new Chrono project anyways, a lot of new bright ideas come with new blood.
I highly doubt that. The Xenogears people couldn't even get the full rights for Xenosaga, and Square doesn't even seem to have any interest in using the license. The original team may also hold the rights to the game itself, so S-E can't even touch it.
They used it to release the game for download on the Japanese PlayStation Store site recently.I highly doubt that. The Xenogears people couldn't even get the full rights for Xenosaga, and Square doesn't even seem to have any interest in using the license.
Sadly, that seems to be true. It's really weird too, didn't the end of the credits in Xenogears say that the game was supposed to be number 5 in a series?Haha. Fair enough. Square has no real plans for the Xeno series then.
Yeah. Xenosaga is that series.Sadly, that seems to be true. It's really weird too, didn't the end of the credits in Xenogears say that the game was supposed to be number 5 in a series?
Officially, no. The company behind Xenosaga couldn't get the rights from Square. I don't think the Xenosaga series is worthy of being considered in the same league as Xenogears, anyway. I wish Square would make some truer prequels to the game, but I doubt that's going to happen at this point.Yeah. Xenosaga is that series.
Xenosaga Ep1
Xenosaga Ep2
Xenosaga Ep3
???
Xenogears
yes on franchises that sell, but xenogears didnt sell too well when it came out, especially compared to final fantasy, xenogears only got popular because of word of mouth which it made it popular towards the end of the psx life cycledont rule it out....Square are sequel **** at the moment
