I believe I've found a workaround for changing discs in MGS using epsxe. What I had to do was save after getting past sniper wolf, then exit the game, re-open epsxe and change the sound plugin to the default epsxe audio. Then I go down the stairs (which prompts you to change to disc 2), then you can do that, and it should work fine. You can save in the blast furnace (on disc 2) and change the sound plugin back to PeOPS (or whatever it is) if you want to. Seems to work so far. Hope this thread can help anyone having trouble in the future.

edit: Hi, same time post :) - Hopefully my method works for everyone. I know people most likely want to play their own game, and not someone else's save files (having different items/game status etc.). It's amazing how picky this game is with sound plugins.

Another bump...sorry, but there's no where else to ask.

Anyone ever have chipmunk voices during the video cutscenes in MGS? I haven't found anyone who's had to same problem. As mentioned in a previous post, when the video FMVs play in MGS, everyone has chipmunk (really high pitched) voices. As humorous as it is I'd much rather hear them as they should be ;) - What could cause this? I tried all different options with the P.e.OPS sound plugin. Eternal SPU doesn't even produce any sound most of the time and it skips and echoes a lot when it does. Is there no sound plugin out there that can fully handle this game? It's a toughy to emulate, that's for sure. The audio portion of the game anyways.

So, anyone else had this weird problem? I think it might have something to do with the PC FPS calculation, but I don't know, I'll to more testing later. edit: If I turn off the PC FPS calculation the voices seem to be normal in the movies, but they echo and skip a lot when PC FPS calculation isn't on, so it's bad either way =/ - Maybe I'll try epsxe 1.52...

Well, ePSXe will look exactly the same as PSXeven, for example. And if it works better in that emulator, I don't see a reason not to use it...

Alrighty, I'll give PSXeven a try on my second run through the game. I hope my feedback on the issues with this game has been somewhat contributial (apparently that's not a word, but you know what I mean). But, maybe they won't help anyone, who knows. It seemed to work better in epsxe 1.52 I found. Of course, my first piece of advice to anyone would be don't use epsxe to play Metal Gear.

Anyhow, thanks for the help.

I ran across the same problem, started going through archives and yeah gotta say, after having tried both epsxe and psxfin out gotta say its much easier to get it to work on PSXfin (I'm using v1.13, not sure if a new version is out). If there was a way to use epsxe in this day and age and someone's found a configuration with which to do it, it'd be wonderful to know. Thanks!

Also, found it way easier to run both Mega Man Legends 2 and Resident Evil 2 Dual Shock Edition off of it too easier than on epsxe, again if there is a way to run it on epsxe it'd be great to let us all know. Gracias again!

I played and finished this game using epsxe 1.7 ,PeOpS 1.18 as my Graphics Plugin the default epsxe 1.7 sound plugin , and alcohol 120% as my virtual disc drive everything runs fine for me except for a few missing sound effects when scrolling between items and weapons other than that I don't see any other problems, it works perfectly and can be played until the end. :)

Is there any updated configuration specs for Windows 7?

Metal Gear Solid (1998, US) has two versions, 1.0 and 1.1. I'll have to check here, but as far as I remember they use different game shark codes and the 1.1 is identified with the code SLUS_005.94.

I did a record of hours from the game, using the last ePSXe version, and you can see the results here

Later I'll post my specs. The only issue I had with it was perhaps graphic inconsistencies that I am sure were not present in the actual disc, played on an original PlayStation. For example, the graphics in the scene where Meryl enters the elevator and starts shooting at Snake (being controlled by Mantis) are very ugly for a moment. The graphics weren't pretty to begin with, but in the emulator moments like these are even worse. The whole thing looks good, though.
