i installed pcsx from the ubuntu packet manager on my ps3.
i started it and the pcsx gui works!!!

But unfortunately the package doesn't contain any plugins.
So, i know the plugins wich i can download on ngemu don't work on PPC processors.
I wonder where i can get plugins for PPC linux !
hope someone can tell me :)

so why they provide a emulator for PPC Linux without plugins?

that's interesting, hopefully some super heads get into the PS3 scene, and we can emulate every PS2/PS game launching game images from HDD etc. would be really awesome. I'm sure the console can handle it w/o any problems^^

yeah, but the most coders are thinking that its not worth anything because lack of 3D acceleration.

I ran epsxe with software GPU plugins on my old P2 266mhz laptop wich has no 3D acceleration, and it worked flawless. with frameskip, ok ^^

opengl since it's linux, it's cause the RSX, the PS3's GPU is not open to the linux developers, hence no hardware acceleration, but this console can run it all with software mode i'm sure

i don't think PSX emulation will be slow on it.
as i posted above i got acceptable speeds on my old Pentium 2 notebook.
Well, I've heard people claim that PS3 Linux is comparable to a P2. Granted, I'm sure its not that bad. (Although from what I understand, the X360/PS3 CPU styles are comparable to a Pentium 1.. not speed wise, of course ;))

Not even close to being comparable to /any/ model pentium in any imaginable way. It's a full on Power5 processor with some unique extra processing cores that run smaller tasks handed out by the main core. These are what apple used exclusively from around 2002-2006 (when they switched to cheaper and more power-efficient Intel chips, once Intel was able to offer dual-core and 64-bit).

Comparing either of those processors to a Pentium is essentially like comparing a 1980s bronco to a 2007 hybrid SUV, they are generally the same type of thing but they do not work the same or even similarly.

The main reason that Linux performs slowly is that 1> There is literally no driver in existence that can access the PS3's graphics hardware properly, and 2> it's a POWER processor, so anything meant for an x86 is SOL
