I don't know about other countries, but here in the US energy drinks have become a fad. These are typically (not always) small ~8.4fl oz/250ml cans of a soda-like drink that is high in caffeine, vitamins like B6 and B12, and other oddball things like taurine. Some have about as much caffeine ass a cup of coffee, others have considerably more. It also costs about 2-3x the price of a normal 12oz can of soda, $2-$3.

Working night shift has led me to become a bit of a connoisseur of energy drinks, even with enough sleep during the day I find myself often fighting that internal clock that keeps telling my brain that it's night and therefore time to sleep. I also tend to drink them a couple of hours before I hit the gym, as they give me a little extra boost.

Many energy drinks are limited to regions of the US, so the more common drink in one state may not even be sold in the next state over. The most common nation-wide one would probably be Red Bull (www.redbull.com). The taste is.. well, it tastes like somewhat fruit-flavored carbonated metal. This sounds bad, but it's really a taste you need to try to understand. They have a sugar-free version that I drink which tastes less fun. Red Bull is one of the tamer energy drinks, it doesn't have many ingredients and it's content of caffeine and vitamins is fairly low.

There's a relatively new one called Spike (BiotestDotNet 3.0) sold in the Cali/Nevada area. The ingredients are pretty insane. The website shows vitamin B12 - *16,670%* of the recommended daily amount in one can. The can I have here says *25,000%*. It's also got warnings all over it, and it's not to be sold to anyone under 18. The Wikipedia article drives home how dangerous this stuff is. The sick thing is that for being potentially hazardous, it tastes really good! It's like a fizzy strawberry soda. It's also diet by nature, no carbs, sugar, or calories. Man, if they made a plain soda version of this I'd buy it all the time!

The last one I will mention is a doozy.. It's called Cocaine. Yes, that's it's name. Cocainedrink.com - The Best drink energy Resources and Information. This website is for sale!. They recently decided to stop selling it simply because of the name. This also has a Wikipedia article about the controversy (I haven't seen the new brand yet). Seems dumb to me, I mean we've been able to buy a drink called "Coke" for years. This drink's taste is new.. I mean it's really, really hard stuff. It's like a soda version of hot cinnamon candies. It really burns the inside of the mouth and throat. Still, it tastes pretty good. I like it the same way some people like very spicy food. The burn is just a part of the experience. I actually just had a can last night after a coworker of mine scored some from a secret source. Despite the bizarre taste and crazy name it's not as potent as Spike. It does have 100% Vitamin C tho. Yay! 8)

Anyone have any favorites? I'm always looking for something new to try.

Bawls is by far the greatest energy drink alive. Wash down a pack of caffeine pills with one of those and you'll have a hard time just keeping still.

Or you could just drink 3 of them and skip the pills. I think it's like $2.50 for a bottle, but I think it's worth it. Then again, I know a place that runs LAN parties and he has it on tap.

I drink alot of them when i got out. Fueling up on Vodka-Red Bull or Vodka-Guru...

Label says no more then two... with alcohol I can go up to 8-10 a night. I know it's "not good" for me as it acts on the nervous system iirc. It keeps me awake for those long partys but doesnt prevent me from going to bed after.

Energy drinks... either you like it or not.

I have treid red bull as it is the only energy drink that is for sale in my village shop, didn't really like it, I(like xxxHolic) tend to drink water most of the time, but tend to drink earl grey tea when im relaxing, and good old coke when Im staying up playing Oblivion. Coke not only tastes nicer than most energy drinks, but I find it works just as well.

Just a bit... for me, top of the line would be Cocaine, or Censored now that they were forced to change their name, never had an energy drink with such a kick to it... 280 MG of caffeine compared to the measly 80 in Red Bull... other energy drinks are alright, Rockstar is probably my second favorite (unless Redline counts, but that's more of a workout drink, and like the Biotest Spike has a lot of warnings surrounding it), and following that Rip It, then Lost, Monster, then Amp, Full Throttle, then Bawls... and at the bottom of the line would be Piranha and Red Bull.
Caffeine is good stuff.

Sometimes when I'm just sooo down and messed up (I mean EXTREMELY tired and worn out),I just wanna head to the gas station and buy a drink or two. Had mostly Red Bull in my life, the occasional Monster for those times I wanna stay up and running, had a taste of Arizona but not really familiar with it. I only get an energy drink when I REALLY need it!

those are soooo bad for you. if you drink them constantly, your body will get addicted to the extreme caffiene and u wont be able to stay awake or energetic without it. i went caffiene free 1 year ago and it feels so much better.

I've tried a good bit of E-drinks, and find that they do so much harm to me, and no good.

I'm switched to vitamin water. I find that I feel a lot better with it. They also have really funny sides to read.

Now when I even have just a coke, I go on a buzz, and my stomac hurts from the gay ass carbonation.

BAH!,

it will rot your teeth!
Stick with water it has no nasty side effects only needing to go to toilet every 1-3 hours.

Water is great and all but it doesn't give you energy which people here are talking about. If I'm thirsty, I'll drink water. If I need a kick to my system, I'll drink Coke or something with caffeine like coffee.

Speaking of stuff that causes your teeth to rot (and faster than Coke or coffee), don't drink Gatorade.

Energy drinks are a waste of money...but I'm not complaining too much, I sell them at a few of my stores and they bring in a nice little income ;).

Still though, no one knows any definite long term effects of them yet, so it's better to be wary of them right now. Who knows what damage it could do to your body when you get older.

Bullet here, it's a nice Red Bull substitute with the same amount of caffeine according to what the can states. It's just only 45 cents. Additionally, I do pick the sugar free version, I'm kinda cutting down on sugary stuff when I can. I hardly drink any coke either.

Other than that, coffee is my crack.

Red Bull is pretty big here as well, but if you ask me, Coke and Aspirins do a better job ^^
