Does anyone know a good program to edit Xvids?

I've made a few movies of this format and now I want to merge them togheter into one movie and perhaps even change a few things. A big plus if it can handle subtitles etc too.

Your question shows your lack of knowledge . Xvid is just a codec, what you're looking for is a video editing program that can handle the video container in which the video stream is encoded to using Xvid. Usually virtual dub is sufficient. As long as you have a Xvid decoder installed , it will always be able to handle the video ( unless you're dealing with the mp4 and mpeg containers ). Now as for merging , both video streams must have the same resolution AND same FPS. As for adding subs ( aka : hardsubbing ), you can do that by using the Textsub filter, which is within the vobsub package ( you have to download that seperatly ).

Follow up question. I've installed a Xvid Decoder, and AC3 Decoder ( this is the audio format I used ) However Virtual Dub complains it can still not decode the audio, what could be the problem?

Is there any video editing software that like VLC comes with its own codecs so I don't have to spend hours downloading lots of different codecs just to start working with my videos?

Someone gave me the advice of trying pinnacle video editing I'll try that. I'll see which one is best.

There's a lot to video editing. I realised I needed to do a lot more than just merging and mixing with the subtitles. I found VirtualDub lacking a lot of features.

Actually I've found Adobe Premiere to be the absolute best video editing package out there, but it's probably overkill for what you're trying to accomplish. VirtualDub should be able to accomplish whatever it is you need done and you can't beat its price.

Adobe Premiere
Thank you Flare. I'll try that too.

It might be me that is inept at using virtualDub but I couldn't even get one video to display under the other... even though I looked through a lot of settings.... Price is not that important, I've realised I need something good. Everything was easier with my old format for movies in games :D but I guess this will save space.

So it stands between Adobe Premiere and Pinnacle now I guess... I hope Premiere has a good trial too, so I can choose which one to use.

agreed (for adobe premiere) but unless you have access to it at school like me its one pretty penny of a price to purchase.

There's a trial version available on the Adobe site.

My school offers it too, but not for the program I'm in. However, I happen to know students that are going into the multimedia field who were kind enough to get me a copy.

hmm Premiere is like 700 bucks huh? but Premiere Elements is around 100 i think...

my friend's sister gave him the full DVD version of Premiere Pro 1.5 which he gave to me, it's an amazing program...but to be honest, anything but DV video, it does NOT like. i wouldn't use it for anything else but DV video.
