Alright guys, Ive been dying to mod my xbox into a media center to go with my big screen and 7.1 dolby surround

But Im quite new, so anyone who has softmodded before I would really appreciate some help

I plan on just taking another HD and placing in it, and leaving the orginal Xbox hd intact so that if something happens I can just swap them out again.

SO from what I gather I need xboxhdm 1.9, and the Eeprom of the Xbox and a hd.

SO I have all of this except the eeprom, and I dont have a clue how to get it or what to do with it afterwards. Just for the record, I dont have a memcard or any of the exploitable games.

edie: Ive heard the xbox can play divx, is this true? (modded of course)

hmm... this is borderline modchip discussion don't think it'll last long.

I've never heard of modding an x-box without a chip, but hey if its possible I'd like to hear it as well.

yes, Im not implying its use as a way of playing backups
if the mods wanna close it thats cool
But I have talked to people in other threads and just wanted to get some help

And yes it can be done, and there are a lot of faqs abbout it but I just would like to talk to someone wh has done it before

In order to soft mod you need three things -> The right game, a memory card, and a pro action replay. Divx is possible.

Bull, you dont need any of that. All you need is a DVD burner, something that can make XISOs, something that can burn ISOs to a CD or DVD, and xboxhdm. You dont need any specific game or mem card.

I wish I could give you the site, but it aint in the guys sig at halomods anymore. If I find it, i'll let you know. Then again, there are plenty of tuts for xboxhdm.

But JanusX is telling you a way to do it so you don't have to open your box. With xboxhdm, you still need to open it. But I don't see why people are afraid to open it. It's a computer, like any computer, maybe a couple of modifications but what the hey. And don't tell me you can't buy parts for it if you screw up b/c you can! I installed my Xecuter 3, since i have a v1.0 I had a hard time getting the solder out of the pinholes. I actually burnt one to a crisp and it is nothing but black. But it still works....no damage done. Anyway, yeah, back on subject, xboxhdm even lets you put new hard drives in(so I've heard) without a modchip. It's your best bet for softmodding. You just answer a few questions, and away you go.
