Keyboards are meant for typing, not for playing games. Due to that, many keyboards have problems with two and especially three or more buttons being pressed at once. So yeah, you probably need to use a gamepad.

^ what he said. Another place to look for PS1 to USB adapters is eBay.

Does anyone remember buying them back in the day from Lik-Sang?
