the game runs just fine but i'm having some trouble playing it. the thing is, whenever i have to use key combinations by using the keyboard (square plus triangle for example) or when i have to make diagonal movements, the game doesn't acknowledge them.
does this mean i really have to use a keypad to play the game or is there some way to fix this?

Keyboards are meant for typing, not for playing games. Due to that, many keyboards have problems with two and especially three or more buttons being pressed at once. So yeah, you probably need to use a gamepad.

For adapting your PS1/PS2 controller to PC: Look here.
For PC gamepads, I'll recommend two gamepads I've tested and I found good:
-Microsoft XBOX360 controller for PC.
-Thrustmaster Dual Trigger.

Does anyone remember buying them back in the day from Lik-Sang?
