Yup, I'm posting more deals, but this time they are from newegg.

85 dollars on a Radeon 4850

Newegg.com - Open Box: MSI R4850-2D512-OC Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card

125 on the 4870

Newegg.com - POWERCOLOR AX4870 512MD5 Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

70 dollars on a 4830

Newegg.com - Open Box: MSI R4830-T2D512 OC Radeon HD 4830 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card

AMD is planning on making an official price drop in July, so that means that the prices for these very good retailers will drop even lower than this. Man I love price wars. I wonder what Nvidia's reply will be.

The 4830 and 4850 are open box. all that means is that the device comes with JUST the card and only the card, no driver disks or manuals or anything like that. they are brand new cards. Just without the extra goodies.

Oh really? I guess I always assumed that open box meant the card was used and then returned. But I guess that's what re-certified is eh?

Hm, that might change how I shop for video cards from now on..

Open box still means it's like new....it was just returned without the extra contents.
What is a open box item? Does Newegg.com open box items or does the original manufacturer?

Open Box items have been opened and touched and/or returned. Because they originate from different situations, they may or may not include accessories, documentation or retail packaging. Open Box products are sold with a 30 day Refund-Only Return Policy. We recommend that you try out your open box product immediately after receiving it.

Open box means not only will they probably not have "extras", but also you're rolling the dice and could get a defective item.

In NewEggs own words about open box items "The entire risk as to the quality and performance of these items is with the buyer. These items have been tested for functionality, but may have superficial physical defects including, but not limited to, scratches, dings or dents. Should these items exhibit a functional defect following their purchase, the buyer (not the manufacturer, distributor, or Newegg) assumes the entire cost of all necessary servicing or repairs, unless otherwise required by law. These items are not covered by any 30-day satisfaction guarantee."

And from personal experience and the experience of others close to me, it happens...

Newegg is liable for selling possibly faulty parts without putting them through stringent fault tests prior to reselling the item.

Newegg can try and use legal bull**** all they want but the people in the know can and will force newegg to replace any part which is faulty.

Usually there isn't much "forcing", I've had no problems returning anything open box or not. But that doesn't stop them from shipping you a defective item which you in turn have to ship back and wait for a replacement. The point is they know their is a good chance going get a defective item. Rather than just "throwing it away" they just put back up for sale at a discount and hope no one notices.:thumb:

Couldn't agree more, these kind of online statements are only valid if they're not against the law.

Cost vs benefits, you're not going to start a case against a huge company over a $80,- videocard.

As for ATi cards, they're dumping their current stock for bottom prices, expect an official pricedrop in the coming weeks. Good times for gamers :)

Funny you should mention that because they sent a buyer of a new GTX295 an open box item.....even though he paid $500.

Ill check the card over thoroughly when I get it.
No but I would if they didn't correct a mistake like this.
