man ive got an e6600 clocked stable at 3.6 ghz since it came out running at 1.4785 volts. You can get the equivilant 2.4 ghz for a couple of hundred australian bucks today. Why pay $1000 ( i think for an i7) for an extra 500-1000mhz.

stegsy have you seen the benchmarks of the i7? It has nothing to do with the mhz. An e8500 will clock to 4ghz easily, but an i7 at the same clock will destroy it. The architecture is superior. And like Wiggy pointed out you can get a 920 cpu by itself for around $250, overclock it to 4ghz and it's an absolute monster. i7 is a very logical upgrade if you can afford it right now.
yeah sorry it wasn't a very well informed answer that i gave. I havent looked at the prices for a while but the last time i checked an i7 extreme 3.2 ghz was $1700 Aus. Your probabaly right though.

Just looked at the prices, the i7 920 is $500 here. Now im thinkning of upgrading:lol:
