Lord Zedeck, why are you still using a CRT monitor? Those things are huge, heavy, bulky, and not very space friendly either.

It's a known fact that old tech and new tech don't mix well, at least in this case. Although there are some exceptions like from going from pci-express 1.x to 2.0, but that is another story/matter. It could be the driver, or it could the hardware compatibility issue, and definitely not a Windows 7 issue.

I'm using a CRT monitor because it's my preference, and I am going to use what is my preference (isn't it obvious!).

Tell me, what is the purpose of your questioning that? It seems like an instigation to me (i.e., you ask not because you care why I use one, but because you want me to list reasons why I prefer it, in which you'll go and list your own opinions to the contrary, even though it would matter naught due to my own preferences, just to start an argument about it for the sake of it).

As for the problem, I'm trying to live with it for now, and besides the not being able to go over 100Hz (which isn't that big of a deal, but being locked to 75Hz/85Hz was), the only problem is the resolutions and refresh rates supported by default. Also, I lose all resolutions above 1600x1200 with the pin removed, but I have another cable. For the most part, most games are defaulting to 100Hz, but specifically, I like to have 1400x1050 as an intermediate option between 1280x960 and 1600x1200. I have it added through nVidia's control panel, and it works fine for Windows, but I don't want it there. I want it in a few games, but other than that, I can learn to deal with this, I guess.

Hmmm... from versions 191.xx, I've lost 640x480 completely. Adding it manually seems to work for some programs but others crash (like GSDX for fullscreen in Dx9 mode).

And now trying the onboard GF8, it has no real 1280x960... every 1280xYYYY resolution is just 1280x1024 with less view space. Also, lost [email protected] since even when trying to force it, it's just [email protected] =_="

#EDIT: Resolutions successfully added.

When adding the custom resolution, the timing was at DMT (automatic had same result). Using GTF did the trick, GSDX still crashes on 640x480 though.

So, any way to disable automatic interpolation in Seven yet?

(Zedeck probably likes the response times for CRTs(although LCDs are quite fast nowadays) and their color contrast, as well as the high possible refresh rates and resolution possibilities. The newest LCDs have improved tons over the old ones in terms of contrast and response times, though refresh rate and resolution still suffers, as long as it's not between 60~75 Hz or using it's native resolution. Just a heads up as to why quite a lot of people still use CRTs. As for me, I actually need the extra space an LCD gives me, and I've taken a liking to them as well.)

I was able to force 60hz by setting my custom 60hz to 60.001hz CVT Reduced.

Point being? It's 60 Hz and not 59 Hz? What I meant is that LCDs normally only allow you to use refresh rates within the 59~75 Hz range. CRTs allow for quite higher than that.

well, for some (not myself as yet) 59hz caused vsynching issues in some games, and other games refused to launch....

Oh, so that's the case. Does the forced 60 Hz work well, then? I've been thinking to move on to Seven, along with upgrading my PC. A 500 GB HDD, a Phenom II, a new mobo, some DDR3 RAM and a new case.

My CPU shuts down from overheat lately, as it reaches 75ºC easily with Dolphin, No$, newer PC games, and sometimes even PCSX2. Worst part is, for the past few days temps haven't risen from 20-25ºC. Once Summer actually kicks in about a month down the line, temps will be at 30-35ºC, and I won't even be able to play Warcraft 3 without it shutting down. -_-

Why not completely clean out the system, remove the fan, replace thermal paste and blow out all the dust from the heatsink?

yeah, definitely sounds like a cleaning is in order.

thatr 5600 is 20c too hot.

It started happening yesterday, and it was already 11 PM, so I didn't really have the time to do a full clean up. I might try replacing the thermal past and doing a complete cleanup and see if that's enough for the moment. But I still have my reasons for needing an upgrade. My father wants to make a PC of his own, and since he doesn't really need much in the way of power, he has agreed to give me a helping hand in buying newer things for my PC, and keeping most of mine. As an added bonus, he wouldn't have the extra heat from the 9800GTX which, given it's size, would keep the entire thing MUCH cooler.

Thanks for the advice, though. Let's not divert from the orginal topic anymore. We're still waiting for Zedeck's response.

No, no real updates.

I'm not on 182.50 anymore. When Windows alerts me of updates, I usually just click to apply them, since it's often just Windows Defender updates. A WDDM driver update slipped past me one time (this was probably about almost a month ago by now), and once I noticed it, I decided to just let it go. The control panel claims it's version 190.38, and there's new 195.xx beta drivers that nVidia is releasing due to the now current latest (191.xx) official ones having known issues with The Sims 3, which I play alot, so I'll grab those when they release.

For now, I'm living with 85Hz (KrossX, it's known that all driver versions after 182.50 can't go higher than 85Hz), although my 1400x1050 resolution is at 100Hz, since I created it while I was still on 182.50, but I had all of my other resolutions set to 100Hz, yet they fell back to 85Hz, sometimes even 75Hz. That's odd. I wonder if it's because I actually created 1400x1050, but I am using 100Hz on a resolution past 182.50. It's just that I can't get it on the others.

As for the the interpolation, it still happens, but I've created custom resolutions for the resolutions I use, and used custom timings (via CVT I think it was?).

In other words, 85Hz is acceptable (but the minimum) for me, and so long as I can override the interpolation happening, I'll have to live with it, I guess. I don't have a choice, maybe save moving to ATi. I'm not holding my breath for a fix, though I'd like to be surprised, but I can't stay on 182.50 forever (new games, and once I upgrade, won't allow that).

Interpolation might be a problem with nVidia drivers defaulting the scaling method to NVIDIA scaling... which is upscaling the lower resolution to your native resolution. IIRC, 182.50 defaulted to your display method.

There is... no fix for this yet as far as I know. It won't let you choose your display's native scaling method in the control panel, and you can only choose either NVIDIA full scaling (stretch all resolutions to fit your native), NVIDIA scaling with aspect ratio (add black bars), or no scale at all. Might have something to do with Windows 7's way of managing displays (which NVIDIA reported as breaking their nView feature or something like that) but... I can at least confirm that on my system, I can't... choose "use my display's scaling method" at all. No matter what else I choose, it always ticks back into that option and I can't tick it and apply itself. :(

Then again, if you're using a desktop monitor, try "no scale" then you can probably stretch the panel using your monitor's controls. With some monitors, though, I've noticed that after you return to your desktop, your native resolution is also stretched by that much.

as does selecting adapter scaling.
