Windows 2000 Professional question.

Ok. my sister just came back from college and she brought her Windows 2000 Professional cd with her. It was already installed on her Dell laptop. Anyway, she brought it home so she could put it on our computer, but on the CD it says "For distribution with a new Dell PC only." So does that mean it can only be installed on a Dell pc? I have a hewlett packard....

I'd probably second that. In my experience most bundled disks are simply "rescue images" which restores the system to the factory default. Although that said this sounds more like an OEM version, which will only install on a win2k system or a virgin pc (HDD completely blank)
Xeven said that the license under which you have to agree to install it states that you are legally only allowed to install it one one machine. To which agree with

As for my bit... Usually brand names have special disks that contain an exact copy of the computers Hard Disk Drive (HDD) that was present when the pc was bought. This has the benifit of only allowing that copy of the os to run on that pc plus it simplifies installation for newbies.

However it may be possible to install in on a computer with an empty HDD.
