I've discovered whats "kinda" going on!
Seems like its a bug in XP! I had a test program that did the same thing as Pete is doing to change the resolution! and it did it on some occassions but others it just did nothing!
The Workaround.....
Select the Mode you want to use in Full Screen, and select Window Mode! When You start a game, press ALT+ENTER to switch to Full Screen!
At least I know I'm not the only one now!
