I have an Athlon 750, Voodoo 5500 and 128 megs of ram. I use the Lewpy's plugin for video but all the sound plugins slow way down when I am in menus, or when a lot of special effects are happening (especially in the Final Fantasy games) Ram is so cheap right now and I was just curious if anyone could tell me if that would help the performance any or if it's not worth it.

Thanks

I dont' think you gain alot by adding more ram if you already have 128mb. Windows will benefit from the extra Ram but not by much.! The major gains for windows is when memory goes from 32MB to 64MB or from 64MB to 128MB.!

More is always better........ With all the newer Pc games coming out these days, 128 will not be enough ram...... Get as much ram as you can....... Or upgrade to a newer Mobo with support for rDram or DDRam........ Those memory prices have gone down too...... get 256 megs of DDRam for 90 bucks!!!!!!! Epsxe won't get the most out of the memory upgrade, but your whole computer will get better.... less hd swapping when playing really memory intensive pc games.... Ie.. Quake3, UnrealTourny and many of the up coming pc games...... I run Quake3 with 128 megs allocated to the game alone from my 256 megs of ram......

Enigma1982, what you said is correct. "Only a bit you can feel" and that bit is speed. That is the performance boost that more ram gives, speed. If a game runs crappy w/glitches and the like, more ram won't fix that. But if, say, ePSXe was running to slowly due to a lot of processing going on, then more ram would definately help.
So, you got it right on the first try, good for you.

Now a days Ram is vey cheap. My system currently has a 128MB ram.I would add another chip of Ram to make it 256.That would cost me 31$ only.

So my suggestion would be the same as of sxamiga........GO FOR IT......if U are asking for any gurantee that the performance of epsxe will be increased then do not increase ur ram.Althought there would be a very slight difference.

U would rather wonder what sort of difference......well that difference does not include speed. It would decrease the some glitches in sound and some slowdowns in psx games.

By the way Ram is very good for PC games and applications.....so go for the ram not for speed but for performance.........!
