I want to get these games , but I'm not sure if they will run on my system:

  • Tony Hawk's Underground 2
  • Silent Hill 3
  • Silent Hill 4: The Room
  • Counter Strike: Source

My system:

Intel Pentium 4 [1800 MHz]
256 RDRAM [Rambus Ram]
GeForce 2 MX 400 [64 MB]

Will any of those games run on my PC ?

hey, I ain't gonna get it just to test if it works with 3D Analyze.

I will either wait untill some one replys who knows it for sure, or 'till I get a new graphics card (but ain't gonna happen soon :( )

Yeah. SH3 ran with 3D analyze on my MX 440, but it ran so badly and looked so bad you couldn't consider it a bit playable. You should be able to play THUG 2 and CS:S at a somewhat low resolution/graphics settings enjoyably. :)

if you saved the money that you would have spent on those games, you could have easily upgraded your vidcard by now..

Check the minimum requirement list on the boxes of those games... The websites should have them too. Just a thought.

I could get a ATi Radeon 9200SE [128 MB], soon (in less than a month). But it's not quite the card I want ... I dunno.

It will run Silent Hill 3 & 4 , which is my main goal. But then I would have to upgrade again , soon ...

Nah.. the 9200SE isn't bad for what you want.. It's much better than a GeForce2 MX 400. :p If you've ran a GeForce2 MX for this long, a 9200SE should last you a while.

EDIT: btw, I had my GF 2 MX 400 for 2 years ;)

It depends on which version of each card you get. There are some more expensive 5200's which have a 128-bit memory bandwidth interface as opposed to every 9200SE having a 64-bit. The 5200, any version, supports DX9 pixel/vertex shaders, while the 9200SE is a DX8.1 class card. However, the 5200 does DX9 PS/VS so incredibly slow, it's not really a "feature" of the card, more like there for show. :p

so, both will be "OK".my choice then only depends on the price.

I will try to sell my current card to get some extra money.

Hmmm, I have an ATI 9200 and I don't see myself upgrading for some time...
But I'm running an "ancient" 900mhz system so the CPU/Motherboard/Memory need upgraded first :p

Nope. DX8.1 PS 1.4 (even more than the GF4 Ti, but not nearly as fast).

9500 and up are the only DX9 ATi cards.

The 9600SE is 64-bit aswell, but it's a DX9 card, and to tell you the truth isn't *that* bad. Where do you live Excalibur?
