That one, I believed, it's called a bar, a gap, the hinge width, or something. Whatever. I think it's the gap between the two Nintendo DS screens, with the hinge, and when you look from the top at 90 degrees downward, with the DS's top screen pushed to the very far back, you notice the width is a bit thin.

Am I not correct, sir?

I pick yes for the grid. Otherwise, in some games, it didn't fit my eyes and the golden ratio of artworks.

Personally I like a bit of a gap, less than the gap on a real DS but a more than the gap on no$gba...so the small gap option in NO$Zoomer suits me perfectly.

first i tried DS on emulator, without any grid, and no problem for me
then my brother borrowed a DS from his friend, and realized some games look better with the grid

but then again, if i use the grid on the emulator, it'll too big, bigger than the screen. i checked the option execute in 200something resolution on the compatibility tab
